To think that the BBC are showing a clear labour bias?

I am basing this mostly on their news webpage. Over the last two weeks Corbyn has been smiling, looking benevolent, or standing at a podium on the BBC news home page nearly every day. Each time the headline has been pretty positive 'labour announce that' type thing. In contrast, May has been almost completely absent and Tory headlines have been negative 'Tories shown to be wrong'. I noticed this a few weeks ago so have been screen shot-ting a couple of times a day for the last two weeks (yes a bit mad I know). I have noticed a similar trend with the Radio 4 headlines though haven't been able to check that one. The question time audience last week was unquestionably partisan.

I did wonder if the Tories had hidden May or just decided not to bother campaigning but even then I thought the BBC were meant to be impartial?

Raven, Gary Barlow is an "out" right wing conservative party supporter. Never liked him, or his crappy music.

annandale · 01/06/2017 18:27

Can i just quote Yes Prime Minister

'Typical BBC'
'It's not BBC'
'Typical ITV'
'It's Channel 4'
'Oh well, what do you expect!'

caroldecker · 01/06/2017 20:22

Orlantina Agreed - but the only heckling and boos I have heard on the TV debates from the audience has been from the Left. Also on Question time over the years, so not just elections.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 01/06/2017 20:26

Most comedians have a left wing bias

Not sure that's true.

I do however rambert the famous Owen Jones headline in 2015 about Russell Brand endorcing the Labour Party and the Tories should be scared. That ended well.

Hmmm...

What do psychologists say?

"Liberals score higher than conservatives on need for cognition and open-mindedness, whereas conservatives score higher than liberals on intuitive thinking and self-deception. These differences help to explain greater attitudinal certainty and stability among conservatives, greater ambivalence and more self-reported thinking among liberals, and stronger correspondence between “gut” and “actual” feelings as well as implicit and explicit attitudes among conservatives. Liberals are more likely to process information systematically, recognize differences in argument quality, and to be persuaded explicitly by scientific evidence, whereas conservatives are more likely to process information heuristically, attend to message-irrelevant cues such as source similarity, and to be persuaded implicitly through evaluative conditioning. Conservatives are also more likely than liberals to rely on stereotypical cues and assume consensus with like-minded others."

One of the things that's very apparent in the BBC and the media in general is a very pro israeli slant.
It's been happening for years.

annandale · 01/06/2017 23:23

And yet, M1, any Jewish person or media source such as the Jewish Chronicle will say that the BBC is inappropriately anti Israeli.

A. Bollocks
B. based on America where democrats see May as Left wing
C. based on self-selecting internet users, so bollocks sample (see A)

If you are in the 1980s YANBU.
Left wing comedians? Name 3.

RubyBluesey · 02/06/2017 00:39

Tory bias I think you'll find

TheMonkeyAndThePlywoodViolin · 02/06/2017 06:41

They can't be that intelligent if they fall for that tripe, Daily Mail

TheMonkeyAndThePlywoodViolin · 02/06/2017 06:43

Generally Left supporters tend to be more vocal and less polite in meetings than the right.

Well it is quite annoying when self interested types are screwing the masses over and being smug about it Wink

Jupitar · 02/06/2017 06:50

Most comedians have a left wing bias nope, most comedians take the piss out of whoever is in government, when labour get in they will do the same to them.

WinchestersInATardis · 02/06/2017 07:15

I think it's probably also worth mentioning that at least part of the reason Corbyn is so visible is not just because he's actively campaigning while May is hiding, but also because the majority of the Tory campaign plan is going after Corbyn.
They clearly saw him as the weak point for Labour and made a tactical decision to campaign around that.
I imagine it's kind of hard for any media to keep his name out when putting across the Conservatives viewpoint because they rarely talk about their own policies. It's always the same line: 'Corbyn would be a disaster for Brexit/security/economy etc etc"

My toddlers have selective hearing, too. Interesting that it carries on into middle age.

ivykaty44 · 02/06/2017 07:57

Lweji · 02/06/2017 07:58

Oh, I know we don't like the DM here.
In case the link was misleading it says intelligent people tend to vote on the left.

PaintingByNumbers · 02/06/2017 07:58

if May chooses to spend her time hiding in her house, there arent going to be many photos of her, are there? Maybe she.could turn up to a few tv debates? maybe people think she is an arrogant dick even if they are still tories?

TheMonkeyAndThePlywoodViolin · 02/06/2017 08:01

It really said that?

Must have had some ulterior motive.

TheMonkeyAndThePlywoodViolin · 02/06/2017 08:01

Can imagine the DM commenters

Lweji · 02/06/2017 08:24

Must have had some ulterior motive.

It did say it was a controversial study. :)

TheMonkeyAndThePlywoodViolin · 02/06/2017 08:45

And I bet it was on there Grin

metspengler · 02/06/2017 08:54

The BBC is extremely pro leftish establishment, their impartiality is an unfunny joke around the country. They spent the whole run-up to the Brexit vote shamelessly campaigning against it and in the time afterwards have largely reported like it was an alien invasion.

The reason their audiences seem so bent is the same reason the predictions were wrong about Brexit - they use polls and polling organizations to influence people's votes and that is mostly what they have become "for".

Luckily Corbyn and MacDonnell do not stand up to scrutiny at all, so they cancel out some of the bias.
