To not want to book my flights for next year with BA?

I was looking at three carriers - BA, Virgin and Norwegian. After this weekend I am leaning heavily towards Virgin but was scoffed at with "well it could have happened to any of them!"

But it didn't, did it? It happened to BA. Why wouldn't I take current issues into accounts when booking future flights ?

BA have massively gone downhill in recent years.

I wouldn't book with them if I had the choice due to their outrageous policy following this recent fuck up that anyone who rebooked flights using a different airline won't get a refund. WTAF? So if you have a precious one week holiday and no method of getting there with BA since all their systems are down and they have X hundred thousands of people trying to reach their destination, how can it be unreasonable to simply find another way of getting there.

This stupid decision is really going to cost them.

And next time it could be Virgin. Do we know what has caused it yet?

Book who you want, the chances of this happening again to BA is probably slim.

Beefy - you say it's unlikely to happen to BA again, but I'm sure I read somewhere that their systems have failed a few times in the last year!

It could (happen to any of them). DH is an IT tech that works for an airline, they all use the same systems, and are now making sure their disaster recovery systems are in place and perfect. BA techs will be working like dogs on this now.

I would have never picked BA over Virgin even before this IT fiasco!!! They have cut back so much on service that they are a joke.

Caused by not having a proper business continuity plan and procedure in place. Companies are massively under investing in this (and IT security) and the chickens are coming home to roost. Someone's head should be rolling.

BA's customer service was apparently shocking this weekend and I've been on the end of BA customer disservice during bad delays too.
