So yh, just that. Had a few issues this morning with them not able to take payment. So I rang up to try and sort it but got nowhere. I rang a different number and got put through to a manager, the manager took my car details and the payment went through, that's what he said anyway and said my shopping would be delivered.

I remember checking the bank due to the confusion so I know exactly how much I had in there. Shopping has long been delivered and I've just looked at my bank and the money is still in there. Confused

Would I be unreasonable to put the money into another account and say nothing? If they ask for the money at a later date I will offer to pay in instalments but i couldn't do it all up front especially as it wasn't my error.

What do you think I should do?

Honesty just leave it, if you ring them again they might take 2 payments!

PainCanBeBeautiful · 09/06/2017 21:22

They still haven't taken the money. Waiting on a delivery tonight so hopefully they take the money tonight.

I had this with ASDA a couple of months ago, weekend delivery, on Monday the money was showing as not taken in any available balance but not actually taken, then on the Friday no money had been taken and my available balance was back to the same as the account balance - they hadn't taken the payment.
I googled saw they can take the payment up to 6 months later, made a mental note to leave that amount in my account (mentally deduct £100 from available balance at all times)
Low and behold the payment was taken without warning 5 weeks later.
Has put me off online grocery shopping now as had I not noticed it I could have ended up in trouble.
It's a pain as I've been shopping online for years and this was the first time this has happened.

PainCanBeBeautiful · 09/06/2017 21:57

That's mad and frustrating to say the least. Especially if I have bills come out that I otherwise would have juggled. After tonight I might just skip online shopping altogether. Luckily the youngests health needs have gone down so shopping isn't as hard as it used to be.

I had this with Asda click and collect before....hubby picked it up then I got an email the next day saying my order was cancelled. Got £70 of shopping for free. Used them lots since and they've always taken the money straight away.

Tesco rarely earmark your account & can take up to 6 months to debit

Debit card transactions are guaranteed so bank will take the money regardless of what's in your account

PainCanBeBeautiful · 08/04/2018 09:59

Tesco still haven’t taken their money. I waited months and then spent it on other bills. I’ve ordered every week religiously since and nothing has been mentioned. Not a very exciting update.

It must have been a computer glitch. Tesco used to phone me if they couldn't take payment for any reason. It would be held in 'limbo' sometimes.

StrawberrySquash · 08/04/2018 10:06

I had a £200 Sainsbury's shop where the money didn't disappear. I called them and they couldn't help. It went in the end but took ages and went with no warning. I wasn't particularly impressed as that sort of thing could mess up someone without a buffer of cash. I mentally ring fenced the money as not really being there.

HateSummer · 08/04/2018 10:08

You updated after a year? 😂

EveningHare · 08/04/2018 10:09

Wow, I was thinking damn zombie thread!

cansu · 08/04/2018 10:31

Just leave it and wait. They probably will take it if they have fucked up then after enough time has lapsed spend it.

worridmum · 08/04/2018 10:32

You do know the bank will honour the transaction and the bank will claim the money from you plus bank charges? If the money is not in the account do you think the bank just tells the store tough luck no money in thr account no money for you.
Nope they honor the account holders debt then claim it back quite easily from the account holder.

AnnieAnoniMouser · 08/04/2018 10:34

cansu. Try reading at least the OP’s posts 🤣😂

Scabetty · 08/04/2018 10:34

After a year think you got away with it 😂

maddiemookins16mum · 08/04/2018 10:38

Mine always goes into pending transactions when I check online.

MsHomeSlice · 08/04/2018 10:40

i think that's a win tbh OP....duty manager must have cocked up and the Fates gave you free shopping.

plenty will tell you it's stealing/dishonest but I cannot get het up about this sort of thing really when it's a multimilllion pound enterprise like tesco.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 08/04/2018 11:00

Thanks for the OP. You did exactly the right thing. If Tesco noticed now they’d be too late to do anything. :)

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 08/04/2018 11:03

Legally that is not at all true. They can debit the money without warning until 6 months has passed, which has, but they are entitled to claim the money from OP for 6 years - they'd just have to give her warning.

I don't think they'll do anything; but it's not at all true to say that they'd be too late to do anything.

BusterGonad · 08/04/2018 11:03

They had their chance and you kept it in the account even though it wasn't easy, it's hard to budget when the money isn't taken out the account asap.

Monstamio · 08/04/2018 11:06

I love that you came back a year later to update. That's dedication!! Grin

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 08/04/2018 11:06

Anchor - look at the date the thread was started and OP’s update. What I’ve said is legally correct as more than six months have elapsed.

PizzaPower · 08/04/2018 11:07

Ghoul, not true. While I cannot imagine Tesco coming after this now and agreee you have got away with it OP.
From a strictly legal point of view the statute of limitations act for debt in the UK is six years. That means they can legally chase you through the courts. It’s only after 6 years from a strictly legal point of view that you have got away with it.

MotherofDinosaurs · 08/04/2018 11:09

Yay you got away with it! I once got send a huge £100 order from my favourite shop twice in error. I kept it and shared it with my friends. These big corporations make plenty of money from us so if they make an error it's fair game I reckon.
