Tesco have delivered my shopping but haven't taken the money..

So yh, just that. Had a few issues this morning with them not able to take payment. So I rang up to try and sort it but got nowhere. I rang a different number and got put through to a manager, the manager took my car details and the payment went through, that's what he said anyway and said my shopping would be delivered.

I remember checking the bank due to the confusion so I know exactly how much I had in there. Shopping has long been delivered and I've just looked at my bank and the money is still in there. Confused

Would I be unreasonable to put the money into another account and say nothing? If they ask for the money at a later date I will offer to pay in instalments but i couldn't do it all up front especially as it wasn't my error.

What do you think I should do?

Leave the money where it is and forget about it...highly unlikely they won't take it! I wouldn't be chasing them over it, not even once, why spend money on phone calls to ensure you have spent money?

I don't see why you are so worried about it.

category12 · 31/05/2017 13:58

I'd be surprised if it isn't still being processed >.

BlahBlahBlahEtc · 31/05/2017 13:58

Banks usually allow 6 weeks for stores etc to debit money from a bank account. If they took it out today though it might not show until tomorrow or the day after.

Inertia · 31/05/2017 14:02

Leave the money where it is, so that when it is processed it's in the right place.

I wouldn't keep ringing them about it though, in case it's taken twice.

PainCanBeBeautiful · 31/05/2017 14:10

To be honest I can't afford to keep ringing as my phone bill is expensive as it is.

I have the banking app and I can see what is being processed what has been taken etc.

There is no sign of this money being taken or that it will be taken.

You pay as far as I am aware and based on how it's been the last few years, before the delivery but after the "picking" of your items.

My items were picked and they couldn't take the money for some reason, so I rang them back (as I'd missed the call) she couldn't get the card to work and told me it must be blocked by my bank. I went online to Superdrug and bought something worth a tenner. The payment went through instantly and I checked my bank and the money was taken so I figured there is an issue on tescos end and not with my card or bank.
I then rang them back and spoke to the duty manager (I think it was?) he put my card details through while I read them out over the phone. All well and good he said the payment went through and my shopping would go out for delivery as normal.

The money hasn't been taken and it's just sitting there. I won't lie, I'd like to spend it as I have another bill to pay that I'm making wait until Friday so to pay it off would be lovely and maybe take my girls out for a treat. I won't do that however as others have advised not to.

I can see how it would be stealing and I understand now, but if they don't take he money am I meant to never spend it incase they do? Another poster mentioned six weeks, so is that how long I should wait?

Yes .

PainCanBeBeautiful · 31/05/2017 14:21

Yes what?

OP posts:
RyanStartedTheFire · 31/05/2017 14:26

Of course you would be unreasonable, it's not your money. Email is still a possibility even if phoning isn't.

ImperialBlether · 31/05/2017 14:28

Is there a drop down list on your online statement for 'Pending transactions'? That would show what's sitting there waiting to go through.

PainCanBeBeautiful · 31/05/2017 14:35

I have the drop down (recent update of the app now shows that) and nope, nothing. I have other pending ones in the drop down but nothing for Tesco.

The money belongs to a Tesco. They just haven't taken it yet but they will when they realise they haven't banked it.

If you need the money that badly it's time to rethink your finances.

BusterGonad · 31/05/2017 14:53

Going what an unhelpful comment, I'm sure the OP is aware she isn't loaded and I'm sure she's tried to rectify this, we don't live in a dream world, money doesn't grow on trees.

PainCanBeBeautiful · 31/05/2017 14:54

I find that quite awful if you to say actually.

It's not that I "need" it it's just it would help to spend it.
You know nothing of my finances so I see this as an unnecessary comment.

If you must know I'm a bit short these last weeks because my daughters pushchair broke and so I prioritised buying a new one. I couldn't just get a cheap one either as good and maximum weight are very important for her.

I asked about the shop not taking the money I was told was taken, I don't need you to question my finances. If I wanted that discussed or help with it then I would make a thread based on that.

Hood. Not good.

OP posts:
Goingtobeawesome · 31/05/2017 14:56

You want permission to spend money that isn't yours. What do you expect people to say?

category12 · 31/05/2017 14:58

"I'd like to spend it" You have spent it tho.

BusterGonad · 31/05/2017 15:05

Sorry if I offended you OP (if you're referring to me) I just presumed (obviously wrongly) that if you're so desperate to spend the Tesco money that you are a bit skint! I mean if you weren't skint you wouldn't be thinking of spending it or moving it around bank accounts and paying it back in installments if Tesco wanted it back! There's no shame in being skint.

PainCanBeBeautiful · 31/05/2017 15:28

Nope not ashamed. I'm always skint lol but I get what we need and that's what's important.

It's just her pram needed replacing so I had to use our money as my daughters dla wasn't due for another few weeks. It's one of those weeks where all the bills are needing done but it's ok cos I can push them about lol.

Not offended at all. Just trying to explain why it's so tempting to use the money for bills and if it tries to come out at a later date worrying about paying for it then. I'm not sure why so many messages are repeating what I already know and I've already taken the advice to leave it where it is.

So much anger on here Confused

PainCanBeBeautiful · 31/05/2017 15:29

buster the first part of me previous comment (the one stating that I think it's awful to say that) was referring to going.

OP posts:
BusterGonad · 31/05/2017 15:29

I'm forever robbing Peter to pay Paul! I hope it sorts itself out soon.

BusterGonad · 31/05/2017 15:32

Yes, I thought Going was a bit rude too!

PainCanBeBeautiful · 31/05/2017 15:33

Yes that is a great way of putting it lol.

OP posts:
PainCanBeBeautiful · 31/05/2017 15:34

And thanks. I hope so to.

OP posts:
YoureNotASausage · 31/05/2017 15:37

It's not your money so don't spend it. They will notice at some point and it will be total hassle for you.

PainCanBeBeautiful · 31/05/2017 15:45

What happens when other bills come out automatically. I've just thought of this but what if I have a direct debit set up and obviously if I didn't have the money it would bounce and I'd sort it out later, what if the Tesco money gets taken for a bill then Tesco want their money. What do I do then? It's starting to piss me off now because it's just a whole big faff and none of it my fault.
