I strongly suspect this thread was started by Wolf Alice's mum as a cunning ploy to plug her videos Hmm

caz323 · 28/05/2017 20:15

Don't think Elkie Brooks has been mentioned.
Dusty Springfield.
And I forget her name now, but the lead singer from Heart.

BorisTrumpsHair · 28/05/2017 20:21

My latest find musically is Aldous Harding. Check her out - new album out last week.

Also I love:
Björk
Rokia Traore
Kellis
Lady Hawke

BorisTrumpsHair · 28/05/2017 20:27

My latest find musically is Aldous Harding

I was going to mention her. Interesting but I don't like her at all so will mention Courtney Marie Andrews

user1480459555 · 28/05/2017 21:13

kd Lang is my absolute favourite female singer but I also like:

Pink
Joan Armatrading
Annie Lennox

There are quite a few female singers whose voices I really can't stand:

Celine Dion, Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey are ones that I have to turn the radio off when their songs come on. All that warbling and screeching drives me mad.

Jellykat · 28/05/2017 21:51

No mention of Shirley Manson yet.. or Gin Wigmore

Fridays' Jools Holland was made up entirely of female singers, which has to be a first.. Aldous Harding was completely fascinating BorisTrumpsHair, i'd never heard of her before.

Surprised no mention of Kim Deal (former bassist and vocals Pixies, and Breeders guitar and lead vocals). Will try to link to Cannonball.

Also love Queen Adreena, Emiliana Torrini, Ida Maria and, more recently (and much more famously), Sia (Furler).

user1487175389 · 28/05/2017 23:30

BoysofMelody · 29/05/2017 01:11

Traceyanne Campbell of Camera Obscura is the best songwriter in Britain. Fact.

KnitFastDieWarm · 29/05/2017 02:01

Tina Weymouth, bassist in talking heads and the reason for their signature sound. Cool as fuck and one of THE great bass players of all time.
