To not have a fucking clue which party to vote for?

bruffian · 27/05/2017 23:24

For the first time ever I am considering spoiling my paper.

Live in a pretty safe Tory seat with Lib dem possibilities. I've voted lib dem for the last few elections.

But I don't like Farron and really don't agree with legalising cannabis. I'd like a soft Brexit but also don't want to keep yearning after Remain (I voted remain)

I hate the idea of grammar schools, fox hunting and social care cuts, so that's the tories out, although I'm brainwashed enough to think that TM is experienced enough to negotiate successfully with the EU.

THE Labour manifesto seems all lovely and cuddly but I don't believe for a second they can afford half of it. Plus I don't mind JC but hate the majority of his front bench. I run my own company and am unsure whether Labour will be any help to me at all.

I don't like any of the leaders very much.

Argh.

No, I don't agree with the cuts, or some of it.

But again, I don't think tax and spend and bust is the way to go.

slightlyglitterbrained · 28/05/2017 22:05

At least if you're spending on schools and hospitals you end up with a better educated healthier population.

If you borrow heavily (as the Tories have done) in order to throw tax cuts at the rich, you end up with...well, Tory ex-ministers walking into cushy consultancies but sweet f.a. else.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 28/05/2017 22:09

Spending is good, if you have the money to spend it.
Tax, then what?

There's is no sound economic plan with Labour, it's all tax and borrow.
As for cushy jobs, they all have it, across all parties.

Even Keith Vaz is running again.

allegretto · 28/05/2017 22:12

Vote tacticallyy to keep labour, the snp and libdems out.

This. Except swap labour, snp and libdems for Conservatives.

allegretto · 28/05/2017 22:13

There is no sound economic plan for the Conservatives - unless you're mega-rich and plan on never using any public services again, vote Labour (or LibDem if they are the second party in your constituency).

IDontBowlOnShabbos · 28/05/2017 22:25

I'm a student nurse so will definitely not be voting Tory!

We don't have enough nurses/doctors now and it's only going to get worse. Conditions in the hospital I'm at are bad because of staff shortages and lots of people are talking about leaving and doing something completely different.

I have to work around my shifts as a HCA because the bursary doesn't cover my cost of living. Conservatives have now stopped the bursary so students will have to pay for their course.

Student nurses don't go into placements 9-5 Monday to Friday. We work in hospitals 7 days a week, doing nights and days. 13 hour shifts!

It is not possible to find a part time job, that pays enough to cover living expenses, when you have no idea what days you'll be expected in placement from one week to the next. Pretty much everyone on my course has said they wouldn't have been able to do it without the bursary.

I'm pretty much against all of the policies in the conservative manifesto but from personal experience, they will destroy the NHS. It's that simple.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 28/05/2017 22:27

well, Tory ex-ministers walking into cushy consultancies but sweet f.a. else.

Oh come on let's not pretend that is a one way street.

This can help give you some insight into your views on the main issues:

Spoilt papers still get counted and registered as a spoilt paper in the count.

Nobody cares about a spoilt paper. Nobody. If you can't make up your mind then you may as well not vote. However, even if you are not 100% for a party (and who is?) you can always vote AGAINST the party you disagree with the most and this is usually quite easy to ascertain.

millymollymandy82 · 28/05/2017 22:36

I've always voted Tory, but not this time, a few months ago I'd have laughed in your face if you told me I'd be voting Labour, but I've done lots of reading and it's a really easy choice.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 28/05/2017 22:39

Nobody cares about a spoilt paper. Nobody. If you can't make up your mind then you may as well not vote

Sorry but it's my vote. If I want to spoil my paper then I will.

If there is a good independent then I may vote for them.

Squeegle · 28/05/2017 22:54

piglet it's your right, but it would be a shame 😩

allegretto · 29/05/2017 06:44

Piglet - that's your right but don't kid yourself that you're making a protest or that anybody is going to notice.

There's is no sound economic plan with Labour, it's all tax and borrow.

I don't get all the comments about Labour not having a sound economic policy. The Tories are just proposing more cuts - which we know don't work. Labour know we have to spend to get out of this mess and have costed out a budget to do that.

cushioncovers · 29/05/2017 07:04

First time ever I'm going to vote labour but I have a horrible feeling that tories will win because of brexit

bruffian · 29/05/2017 08:53

The tories will definitely win, but it would be good if their majority was not a landslide. I do wish JC and his awful front bench would go though

LabourWillSaveOurKidsFuture · 29/05/2017 09:06

Someone told me they couldn't vote Labour because their policies are "too good". You need to look at their manifestos and think about what you want for your family, your children's future and the future of those around you.

BTW, that friend is now voting Labour.

If you are struggling, vote for someone who will help you; if you are doing okay, vote for someone who will help others.

www.independent.co.uk/voices/how-the-nhs-is-being-dismantled-in-10-easy-steps-10474075.html

Another NHS article- shows why we need to work hard to create an opposition to challenge this. Mays campaign is really not talking about the NHS but most of us don't want it dismantled do we?

bruffian · 29/05/2017 09:24

Yes I want it dismantled if it can be put back in a better Way!

OP posts:
Squeegle · 29/05/2017 09:34

Maybe we need to have that discussion- what is the right way? At the moment it's being privatised under the radar and most of us don't realise it until we start to have our appointments made with virgin etc!

PollyPerky · 29/05/2017 09:45

I never understand threads like this.

Each party has core values. They never change. The detail of the manifesto may change each election but the underlying principles of what they stand for doesn't.

I am not going to say who I support but I've never changed my mind in over 40 years of being able to vote. I believe in the ideology of one party and will never change my mind.

I cannot understand people who don't understand that parties have core values. The leaderships come and go but the underlying beliefs stay the same.

I believe in free markets, personal responsibility, a small state with as little involvement in business and personal lives as possible, a welfare system for the poorest, and freedom for the individual. These are my values and there is a party that offers most of this.

Theworldisfullofidiots · 29/05/2017 10:12

I cannot understand people who don't change their minds. Parties core values often change over time too. If no one ever changed their minds or reviewed their views, then we might as well be indoctrinated at birth.

cushioncovers · 29/05/2017 11:20

If dismantled the NHS would never be put back together in any way let alone a better way. IMO

MerryMarigold · 29/05/2017 20:10

I think if you're basically middle off the road you can happily swap between all 3 parties. My mum voted Con longest election but I wouldn't call her a Tory. This time she's voting Labour, partly as a tactical vote as she is so disillusioned with the Conservatives treatment of education and healthcare. She's v far from Corbyn Labour, but she's making a protest. Her area swings Lab /Con so she's hoping a Lab vote will help stop the destruction of the NHS. Every little helps!

slightlyglitterbrained · 29/05/2017 21:28

Did anyone post this one yet?

To not have a fucking clue which party to vote for?
PhilTheSahd · 31/05/2017 17:19

Thanks for the chart glitterbrained, interesting how much some parties agree, at least in broad terms. I'm wondering why the con and lib dem squares overlap without anything in there.
