Do I clean the BBQ after each use?

So will we get food poisoning if we don't? I'm sick of cleaning it - hubby does the BBQ but it turns out as more work than me doing stuff in the oven. Conscensus down the pub is that you don't clean between use, just use a metal scrubber and burn off all the crap before using.

We've got a wire brush with a water spray attached, so when the grill is hot you scrub it off and it steams off everything too.

Yeah ours hasn't been washed in 3 yrs. No one's been poisoned. I thought it was similar to seasoning a wok. Stops food sticking to the bars. We use charcoal so the bars are right in the flames when it's first lit.

I always washed mine after every use.

Then I met DH who sparks up the barbie and uses water and metal brush to clean/burn the food off.

Never got food poisoning from it yet.

Now I've put the washing bbq in room 101 alongside ironing.

thanks folks. interesting to see a few people mention spraying with water, as well as metal brush. I think i'll suggest we give this a try. forgot to mention we have a gas BBQ.

if this works out, you've just reduced my summer workload by loads. and its one of my least favourite jobs. thanks everyone

I clean it after every use. We keep it outside under a cover and every time I go to use it the grill is covered in slug/snail slime
