It used to be a thing didn't it, but I don't think I know anyone without kids who doesn't go out to work

I know one - in her 40s - no children - describes herself as a trophy wife Grin

BackforGood · 27/05/2017 20:32

I know quite a lot of people in their 50s who have decided they no longer need to do paid work, and have taken early retirement - does that count ?

PetalMettle · 27/05/2017 20:35

Dunno bfg. I think I'm more interested where only one of a couple works.
Although am supremely jealous of anyone taking early retirement who's got good health

I also had to fill out a form at a doctor's recently. Tried to write "don't work" but they weren't having any of it. In the end dh lost patience and just wrote "housewife". Why not "houseperson", why bring "wife" into it?

PetalMettle · 27/05/2017 21:20

Yes my original post should have said houseperson as well. Or just non woh I guess

I'm in my 20s and I gave up my job recently due to stress, I have some disabilities which just compounded it and we've made the decision that I will be a housewife, so no plans to go back to work, we're planning on buying a small holding similar to a poster above though, so hoping to be dealing with the animals and vegetables plots etc as my "job" in the future.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 27/05/2017 22:01

I knew someone that really wanted to be a mum

They didnt have any success but she gave up work anyway in the hope that a more 'stress free' existence might be the trigger for conceiving

They moved eventually so i dont know if it worked

But anyway she is/was a housewife

PetalMettle · 27/05/2017 22:03

That's very sad Rufus. Well of course, infertility always is.
Miso - sorry to hear you've had a rough time but I do admire people who come to decisions/make life work for them. I am very passive
