Gig on Saturday in Manchester

Got tickets to seemy favourite band in Manchester (cricket ground) on Saturday. 50,000 capacity so a massive event.

My GF is coming with me but her family are begging us not to go. I personally think it will be safe what with the huge police presence.

However, I would feel terrible if something DID happen.

AIBU to still go? Or should I stand firm and not let recent events affect my choices? I have given GF the option to not go if she doesn't feel safe.

Go. I wish I had tickets, ifs going to be an amazing gig!
Remember for none of you to take a bag, expect longer delays getting in and expect to be searched.
Have a great night

EggysMom · 26/05/2017 17:55

If you do go, OP, please allow extra time as they have already warned of stronger security checks taking place.

Emboo19 · 26/05/2017 18:00

Also going op!
The security has really been stepped up. The bands have been tweeting about it.

I am taking DD (9 tomorrow) and friend to a concert next week. I asked the friend's mum if she was still ok about her going, she was fine so and we are taking them.

I think the atmosphere will be great!

londonfeather · 26/05/2017 18:13

I'm going to the same gig.. group of us travelling up from London. It's hard because there is a risk wherever you go and however careful you are but it's her choice to join you or not. Enjoy...

Limitededitionseveninch · 26/05/2017 18:14

As you can probably tell from my username, I love them and wouldn't be missing this gig for the world. DH and I definitely toyed with the idea but we figured we would probably be more likely to die in a crash on the motorway and even my darling mum, who I expected to be twitchy as she's taking DS for the weekend, was all for it.

Go and enjoy it Smile

Love the user name limitededition 🙌🏼 have a great night, wish I was going now

MissShittyBennet · 26/05/2017 18:52

Come! We will welcome you, and thanks for not staying away, because that would damage our economy. That said, it's a personal choice that every adult should make for themselves, If your partner decides against it, that's her call.

ScouseQueen · 26/05/2017 18:57

I was out in Manchester last night and while there were extra bag searches and visible police, there were lots of people out and looking relaxed. So fuck you, terrorists. Your call but I think it'll be fine.

Hulababy · 26/05/2017 19:03

I have two concerts next week - one arena tour and the other is a bigger venue in Manchester.

Have to admit that I do feel a bit nervous and worried. As well as friend/sister I have 15y Dd going to both. She is keen to do them regardless.

However, despite nerves, we are planning to go. We will be vigilant (I normally am anyway) and we are taking as little as possible with us.

Majorgoodwinschickenbeatstrump · 28/05/2017 13:34

Hope it was really good! Smile

NotACleverName · 28/05/2017 13:55

It was amazing, Major. Easily the best gig I've ever been to; 50,000 people singing along to every word.

Emboo19 · 28/05/2017 14:08

It was amazing wasn't it Not very emotional but a great sense of togetherness. Have to say, I felt safe too.
And I think I'm a little bit in love with Liam Frey!

Hope the Op and his girlfriend enjoyed it!

I felt really choked when "Don't Look Back In Anger" was performed.

Me too, Em, me too. He's a babe. 😍

Leanback · 28/05/2017 15:11

I live less than a mile from the grounds and could hear you all roaring along to don't look back in anger. Me and dp had a little weep.

Majorgoodwinschickenbeatstrump · 28/05/2017 19:04

Fantastic! Smile inspired me to go for things a little and not be frightened! Courteeners are fab!

LagunaBubbles · 28/05/2017 19:08

I'm in the West of Scotland and my son travelled down for this and had a great time. Just showed me the singer's poem on his phone.
