Of course YABU. It is clearly down to context, as proved upthread. And the other emojis can also be used unpleasantly - a passive agressive for example, or a . You can swear like a trooper on MN but not use a face?! In any case, people are perfectly capable of being very unpleasant without using any emojis at all. So, would banning it make people stop being mean? Nope. Anyway I like it - it's my favourite emoji.

I use them in this order of preference, I think:

I love it. It's very useful. I have a similar one on my phone but it's a bit more puzzled looking and has a finger propped under the chin which makes it even more uncertain looking. It's my most used emoji. It's perfect for anything I don't understand, or am wondering about or is a bit puzzling etc.

YABU . is the perfect face for the Small Pets section. Guinea pig owners use it to describe the judgey faces their pets give them if they dare to give them new food, new bedding , new anything. Guinea pigs are suspicious of anything new
