To not want to pay for my hair to be blow dried?

I have really, really short hair - fine and not much of it unfortunately! I have finally found a hairdresser who cuts it just like I want but she (or rather her boss) insists that I also pay to have it dried. Each time I have it cut, by the time she has finished it has already dried and is exactly how I want it. She then sprays water on it so she can dry it. AIBU to not want to pay for drying? Now that it is so short, I would like it cut more often but can't afford to! Plus, without drying I can literally be in and out of the salon in under 15 minutes which surely frees up time for other clients - some of which have long, curly hair that takes over half an hour to dry and style.

When I had really short hair, my hairdresser was OK about not blow drying it. I really liked how she cut it, but didn't like how she blowdryed it so would redo it as soon as possible!

Not unreasonable...but I have had the same/similar issue. Ultimately, depends how much you value the cut if they are going to insist.

Refuse. They cannot force you to have your hair blow dried.
Stand up after the cut, say thank you.
Pay and walk out.

It's a bloody rip off.
Last time I had mine cut professionally, we had already agreed on the price (cut & colour).
Right at the end, the hairdresser asked in a casual tone "shall I just blow dry that for you? " I said there probably wasn't much point as I was about to go out in the rain and it was pretty much dry by now anyway. I must have sounded like I was wavering as she grabbed the hairdryer and went at it.

Added £35 to my bill.
I'll never go there again.

I never pay for a blow-dry, always just have a wet cut. Occasionally my hair dresser will take some of the wetness off with a diffuser but I book exactly what I want and, in your situation, would only pay for what I had booked.

My hairdresser has a minimum charge which include cut and blow dry, you can refuse blow dry but it will not change price. It has long waiting lists and is reasonably priced so can get away with this.

A newish hairdresser chain has opened by me where most things are £9.90 separately; a cut, a blow-dry, a colour etc. I get a decent (wet) cut without a dry (which I hate anyway) and am out in 10 minutes. Such good value and shows what a load of flimflam a £60 cut and an hour of your time is.

Can I ask where you lot live? My hairdressers is only £25 for a cut, dry and style. It went up from £20 about two years ago. It's not a scummy little place either it's quite nice and well known in the local area... I live in a relatively rural scottish town though are these london prices? The thought of blow drying it adding £35 sounds obscene to me!

Yes stumpy if you live in a big city it's a lot more expensive!

My upmarket hairdresser will insist on a blow dry - in part, I think, because they don't want people leaving other than immaculate. However, my local hairdresser in a poor(ish) area doesn't require hair to be blow dryed (though will do a rough dry so you're not leaving soaking wet), and will also do dry cuts

It's included in my cut and finish. It's a bit old fashioned to charge separately.

It is a separate item in my hairdresser, I usually have it dried as it makes my hair look polished for the only time in the month but if I am short on time it is just coloured and cut. We agree what we are doing before we start.

In London a cut n blow dry is £35.

If you're saying you don't want it dried, and they're saying that you must do as they say and pay £35 extra (are they using unicorn breath to blow it?), you simply go somewhere else where they'll do as you wish. This is a really daft situation that you could avoid.

Tell her 'I never charge for blow jobs and neither should you'.

I hate my hair blow dried - it goes all bouffy, so always go for a wet cut. You shouldn't be forced to have and pay for something you don't want.

Have you asked them what the price for a wet cut is?

if they refuse, you could try asking them if they could recommend any other hairdressers that do wet cuts as well as cut and blow drys - might concentrate their minds that it is better to charge you something for a cut than lose you as a customer when they keep on insisting on doing a cut and dry...

A cut is 24 euros and a blow dry is 20 euros. I asked last time not to have a blow dry but they refused! I really like the hairdresser though but I think I am going to look elsewhere. I feel that if I push it too much then it will just create a bad atmosphere and I'll probably not go back anyway. The barbers here won't cut my hair either - very annoying!

Are they on any review sites - could you leave them a review along the lines of what you've said here - that you've had a great cut but you hate the fact that they effectively extort the cost of the blow dry out of you because you have short hair that dries just as you like it before the end of the cut, that you want to leave but they won't let you, instead wetting your hair again in order to dry it and charging you an extra 20 euros, which you feel is a waste of time and money. So long as you are factually accurate and say that you feel it's a waste of money or feel that it's just a mechanism to extract more money from you, rather than saying it is a waste of money or is a way of extracting more money then they shouldn't be able to complain about your review. Plus if they quote for them separately then they should sell them separately. I bet if somebody goes in and asks for a blowdry they don't charge for a cut as well...

You can always say before you did not wish for a blow dry. What was there reasoning for saying you need a blow dry? You can always ask for a dry cut.

Please do not do as a pp suggested and stand up after the cut and go too pay. I would be pissed if a client did this on me, because you obviously book a bigger block when a blow dry is included.
