"After all that kissing arse at the Vatican, in Jerusalem and Saudi Arabia, I'm all touched out" says exhausted POTUS. Trump continued.

Microwave - Not clicking on the NYT is what WH wants. Trump has openly said he wants them to go under. Think about whose agenda this contoversy serves. I will continue to read NYT but I may well write to their editor to express my displeasure.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/05/2017 10:32

I've cancelled my subscription to the NYT.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/05/2017 10:34

illegitimate. I hadn't thought about that, but why on earth did the NYT publish it? What was their editor thinking?

bigmack · 25/05/2017 10:40

Were NYT set up?
Why hasn't TM said anything?

cozietoesie · 25/05/2017 10:51

I think that they maybe were set up, along with some other news agencies - but who knows? If so, they fell for it.

I'll keep on reading them - but I'd like to hear a statement from the editorial board/editor on the matter. I'm not aware that there has been one yet?

BiglyBadgers · 25/05/2017 10:58

Why hasn't TM said anything?

She doesn't know what to say. She is crap in this sort of crises as it just doesn't fit her internal narratives. Her computer chip crashes and she just flashes error messages until someone turns her off and back on again.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 25/05/2017 11:03

I searched for one this morning Cozie and couldn't see one.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 25/05/2017 11:03

That made me snort out loud bigly, which caused some raised eyebrows in the office!

BiglyBadgers · 25/05/2017 11:04

I don't think we should stop reading the NYT because of one cock up. Even if it is a bigly one. I'm not going to stop clicking on telegraph articles or even occasionally glancing at the mail dispite the fact they spout all sorts of damaging and misleading crap, because it is important to get news from all sorts of different sources and not start locking ourselves into an ever decreasing bubble of our own making. I know we all want the NYT to be a bastion of anti-trump heriocness and so hold them to higher standards, but let's be realistic, except even the best people make mistakes or do not think exactly the same as us, and not start cutting of our noses.

Bomb disposal unit and army sent to a college in Trafford, Manchester police say

I better place mark or I'll never catch up.

Any chance of a one page summary, double spaced, font size 14, preferably with graphs and drawings? Grin

BoreOfWhabylon · 25/05/2017 11:21

I can't help wondering if it is just coincidence that Bannon and Priebus returned to Washingtonfrom Saudi on Sunday, rather than continuing with El Trumpo on his trip.

Not suggesting they knew in advance about the Manchester attack, rather that they may have tried to capitalise on it by setting up NYT?

Or am I turning into a tinfoil hat-wearing, swivel-eyed loon?

I'm sure Putin didn't envisage isolating America from her allies going as successfully as it has but this is where we find ourselves:

EU and US have no "common position" on Russia, says top EU leader Donald Tusk after talks with President Trump. Trump in Brussels for 'tough' Nato talks amid protests
www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-40037776?ns_mchannel=social&ns_campaign=bbc_breaking&ns_source=twitter&ns_linkname=news_central

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 25/05/2017 11:31

Sorry, I know it's been posted above but to see Tusk saying they have no common position is such a stark proclamation that it took me aback anew.

Roussette · 25/05/2017 11:35

Jared and Ivanka going home... I thought the two of them were responsible for keeping him on track regarding his mouth.

Let's look out for carnage in Brussels then! (Especially as Obama is in Berlin with Merkel and huge crowds, that will really get to Trump)

Roussette · 25/05/2017 11:35

'him' = Trump

Greater Manchester Police say incident at college in Hulme is over & suspicious package is deemed safe

PerkingFaintly · 25/05/2017 12:29

I've added to my list of who benefits from the leaks.

Made happy by the impact on this investigation and on intelligence-sharing are:

Daesh et al
Russia
the far right.

Arron Banks lamented that the far right hadn't done well in Austria because there hadn't been enough "rape and murder yet". He clearly expects the far right to benefit from murder, and from anything that could increase murder.

MicrowaveSpy · 25/05/2017 12:42

We'll have to agree to disagree on the NYT I'm afraid.

I do care who gave over the info - if it was a WH/Russian set up BUT they chose to publish and that action could have tipped off the people our forces were trying to find.

Clicks matter and the analytics are monitored closely. There is very little I can do, but I can stop reading the NYT for a couple of weeks.
If enough people do the same, perhaps when they see a decrease in clicks they will think twice next time.

Gumpendorf · 25/05/2017 12:44

Perking, I'm just dipping in and out atm so apologies if this has been posted and covered but former Ambassador and historian Craig Murray is speculating about the Saudi involvement here. www.craigmurray.org.uk/

It could also explain why the WH is keen to muddy the trail by leaking key info, given the Saudis are now Donald's new BFs.

Gumpendorf · 25/05/2017 12:51

I'm with those who say the NYT should have exercised the right not to publish, and it seems a schoolboy error, but maybe they hadn't realised the UK didn't release info like that. The US (from this vantage point) seem to be more transparent and I'm assuming that's because we have different judicial systems.

When I last looked, there was a lively debate on Twitter on whether the UK is too secret about this information.

It seems to be a turning point.
