Bath towels - how many do normal people have?

UsedtobeFeckless · 22/05/2017 22:01

What's a sane towel total? One per each, two, twenty? I'm purging the pit of despair that is the airing cupboard and I've found the motherload, towel-wise ... How many do l chuck? My mum never throws anything out until it actually disintegrates and my sister has two so l've got no basis for comparison ... Help?

Bath sheet is bigger!

Yarboosucks · 23/05/2017 00:44

Bath mats…. I have bath mat! We have white bathrooms and I can change the whole look of the rooms by changing the mats and towels. And yes, they match

Saracen · 23/05/2017 01:10

Six bath towels for our family of four. But I have trained three of us to use hand towels to dry off after a bath, so it's mostly just The Teen who uses bath towels.

Plus a massive stash in the back of a cupboard, about 20 I think, for plumbing emergencies. We have frequent plumbing emergencies. I don't know why this should be, when other people seem to go months or even years without them. But there you go. It must be a peculiar talent of ours.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 23/05/2017 05:09

Three (live alone):

One that I leave on the worktop to use as an ironing board

One to sit at the base of the toilet to soak up the permanent leak

One to use

TrickyD · 23/05/2017 06:32

I have never bothered to count, but we seem to have quite a few.

My favourites are two big threadbare ones that I keep just for me. They are ancient and still have the name tapes that my mum sewed on when I took them off to university in 1963 and they were not new then.

Despite their thinness and the particularly transparent areas which I have darned, they still dry me far more efficiently than any of our fancy fluffy one which will cerainly not last anything like as long.

2 bath sheets per adult used on rotation. I have two head towels used on rotation. A swim/beach towel each. About 4 guest towels. About 4 hand towels for the bathroom.

Pengweng · 23/05/2017 07:59

We have two each I think plus some smaller ones for my hair.
About 6 hand towels and then we each have a swimming towel.
Guests (my mum) just use what ever is in the cupboard.

RedBugMug · 23/05/2017 08:03

2 for the dc.
about 20 hand towels
10 floortowels (slightly thicker instead of bath mats)
10 small guest towels

IJustLostTheGame · 23/05/2017 08:08

We had a good chuck out when we moved but DH snaffled some for unspecified use in the man cave. Just as well we didn't throw too many out in light of SIL's recent visit. She stayed for 4 days and we left 2 bath sheets and a hand towel in her room. She had several baths and we kept on finding towels hanging off door handles/on the floor. On the evening of day 3 she announced to her brother DH that she couldn't have a bath as she had "run out of towels". Apparently she needs 2 bath sheets after a bath (she is not a large woman) and best of all, she expected us to change all the towels, every day!

AStickInTime · 23/05/2017 08:55

4 of us live here, we have 2 bath towels each (1 in use, 1 stored in that person's bedroom chest of drawers).

The children keep their used towel on their own bedroom radiator and the parents get to store theirs on the towel rail in the bathroom.

Swimming: one towel each stored in swimming bag under the stairs

About 4 hand towels stored in master bedroom with parent's towels.

bigbluebus · 23/05/2017 09:58

I have far too many but was so grateful the night that our bedroom radiator sprung a leak and was emptying the entire dirty liquid content of our central heating system onto our bedroom carpet and through the ceiling below. I was able to avert complete disaster by using every single towel out of the airing cupboard whilst DH worked out how to drain the rest of the heating system!

Haffiana · 23/05/2017 14:16

TrickyD I completely agree about thin towels being far more effective than thick.

I recently found that John Lewis have a range of really old style waffle weave bath towels which have no pile at all. They are the BEST for drying bodies, and the BEST for hair because they are lovely and light. Just like Hammam towels but better at actual drying. I am going to buy some more of them and then my towel stash will need an alternate universe to fit in...

anotherpoisonprince · 23/05/2017 14:53

What is a bedroom only towel?

I have no idea. Everytime I visit my Gran she insists on giving me vast amounts of towels and linen.

WashBasketsAreUs · 23/05/2017 17:48

3 bath sheets,2 bath towels and 4 hand towels in the same colour for the upstairs bathroom plus 3 bath mats.
3 bath towels 2 hand towels and 2 bath mats in the same colour (but different to the upstairs colour) for the downstairs shower room.
4 bath towels (2 green 2 brown) for guests plus a couple of random ones.
I have NEVER had matching towels so when we did this house up I got matching ones, so grown up!
Oh and also 2 matching hand towels for the kitchen.
My airing cupboard has the towels folded in a certain way, in a particular order and hubby will jokingly say he's going up to rearrange the airing cupboard. He's not done it - yet. I'd LTB if he did ( taking my towels, neatly folded obvs, with me!)
I should get out more!

ExplodedCloud · 23/05/2017 17:50

Umm. About a metre in height. Plus the mucky towels in the utility room.

DandelionAndBedrock · 23/05/2017 18:47

backforgood hence why I said "assuming not" Smile.

I didn't mean throw them out then buy more! I meant if you regret your decision, you can always buy more in the future.

YellowCrocus · 23/05/2017 18:52

Minimal, I think!
About 6 bath sheets.
2 bath towels.
2 hand towels.
A hair dye towel and a couple of sports towels.

ephemeralfairy · 23/05/2017 19:06

I've got three naice ones that also get given to guests, I've also got a couple of beach towels that go to the gym.
Four hand towels for bathroom sink plus one old one that gets wrapped round hair after shower.
DP has two disgusting towels that I never touch.

NotMeNoNo · 23/05/2017 19:13

Moving house. Have kept two best/matching bath and hand towels an two bed sets per person, plus few neutral spares. So liberating! !

LakieLady · 23/05/2017 19:50

We have:

4 x bath sheet + hand towel each (2 of us) in the current bathroom colour scheme

6 x bath sheet + hand towels in the previous bathroom colour scheme, now used for overnight guests

about 10 bath sheet/hand towel odds and sods for using at the beach, taking camping etc

and loads of old grotty ones that have been demoted to dog towels

theclick · 23/05/2017 20:59

Two in rotation (one in laundry while other used or in linen cupboard) and a hair towel as I don't use the same towel for body and hair.

shinyredbus · 23/05/2017 21:01

10 bath towels between 2 adults, 1 toddler and 1 baby.

Verbena37 · 23/05/2017 22:25

Kids have about 4 bath towels each .
Have a nice set of two bath and two hand for guest room
DH and I have about 10/12.
Lots of hand towels, distinguished by colour for kitchen, loo, bathroom and our en suite.
Oh and I've got a couple of really pretty ones to use as shower mats to stand on instead of shower mats.
