Bath towels - how many do normal people have?

What's a sane towel total? One per each, two, twenty? I'm purging the pit of despair that is the airing cupboard and I've found the motherload, towel-wise ... How many do l chuck? My mum never throws anything out until it actually disintegrates and my sister has two so l've got no basis for comparison ... Help?

One own towel each, plus a few communal stragglers for when the DC have thrown theirs on the bedroom floor and CBA to find them.

I am not running a spa.

I reckon that's fine but I'd probably keep some old ones for eg plumbing jobs or drying down washed windows or vomiting bugs or dying hair etc.

I have five large hand towels, they are big enough to wrap up my hair after I've washed it and to dry off with after a shower and they dry off quickly and don't take up much space in the washer.

Hundreds of millions of towels!

4 matching sets of nice fluffy ones.
3 or 4 sets not really matching but pairs that I usually use together because I like them, at least 10 years old but not threadbare.
One that I nicked from halls of residence quite a few years ago
3 that I inherited when Dad died that I can't bring myself to get rid of, normally used for catching sick or for going on holiday because they're old and thin so don't take up as much suitcase space. They were wedding presents in 1973, from which you can draw certain conclusions about their condition.
DH has his own heap of about 10, 8 of which I would give to the cats' home if he'd let me. The other two were wedding presents, but woe betide me or DD if we dare to use HIS towels.
About 12 hand towels, across the range of quality and fluffiness, including one white one that comes out for fancy visitors, and one Christmas one.

About 8 flannels. Varying ages but they get downgraded to cleaning cloths when they get too old.

Also about a million teatowels. It used to be two million but I eventually sent the ones with holes in to the charity shop for the rag man.

Sorry I read someone saying hand towel jobbies as something rather rudeGrin

Just me and DP - we have three sets of bath sheets/hand towels/bath mats, but quite a few random extras where one item of the set is missing (poss ruined by me dyeing my hair) and the rest have been kept "as spares".

Lots. But I tend to use the same ones, we have really thick chocolate brown ones in the main bathroom and as I can't be arsed getting more from laundry cupboard I tend to wash them in the morning after we've done showering and hang them outside bathroom to dry and then they are ready for use the next morning. Do it about once a week. A bath towel and hand towel each.

My daughter has two bright pink bath towels and a bright pink bath mat. We have four guest bath towels all purple with four matching hand towels. Pale grey hand towels in the loos,

Then we have a spare dark grey set for us that I never use, And then an assortment of random ones in the airing cupboard.

I can't do white towels as they'd never stay white 😂

We also have a wicker basket of face cloths (about 30) which I use for cleansing.

I don't know how many we have actually - About six or seven? We always seem to have just enough for them to be able to be used a few times and one or two in the cupboard fresh. DH showers daily as does DS and I do every other day.

No colour matching or sets though. Just functional. I replace the hand towel when it gets covered in toothpaste.

12 hand towels and 10 bath towels - all matching, I can't stand mismatched towels. I don't like bath sheets, find them too big and unwieldy, so we don't have any.

We also have several dog towels. Sadly these don't all match but he doesn't seem to mind! They tend to be towels given as presents (dh's nan had a phase of giving towels for Christmas a few years in a row).

One bath mat
One large dog towel
Family of 3, and a dog (and a cat, but she HATES the bath)

Nah, that's just the ones we use. I really need to pass on the others.

Probably about 10 bath towels for a family of four, children only here part time.

I can't stand bath sheets, they're so BIG I can't dry myself without masses of extra towel getting in the way.

3 random "England" towels from cereal (I think) which we use for things like swimming and hair because they're thin

At least 8 bath sheets

2 bath towels

2 hand towels

1 dog/spilling/ floor towel

two towels each plus my DS has one for swimming
hand and face towels are different.
We also have a few 'old' spares in case we go swimming with him as I have to wash everything after swimming and don't like anything being cross contaminated.
I keep very old towels for just general diy etc.
Last month our integrated dishwasher broke down and its had to be laid down and so used a towel underneath as some water came out.

We have loads, it's just the 2 of us but I have 2 matching that I alternate between, 2 older ones that I use for dyeing my hair / drying the cat / cleaning up. Dp has 3m4 mismatched ones, and we have 2 nice guests ones.
I did confiscate his worst one and cut it up into cleaning cloths!

Three bath mats
Three bath sheets
Six bath towels
Six hand towels

  • three beach towels
  • two ancient towels (pretty threadbare) used for hair dying
  • two small hand towels for downstairs toilet

One set of bathmat/bath sheet/bath towels is beginning to wear out but that might be because I've had them about 15 years.

I also have dog towels, cat towels, hair towels, beach towels and garden towels .
