Bath towels - how many do normal people have?

What's a sane towel total? One per each, two, twenty? I'm purging the pit of despair that is the airing cupboard and I've found the motherload, towel-wise ... How many do l chuck? My mum never throws anything out until it actually disintegrates and my sister has two so l've got no basis for comparison ... Help?

We have 6 in general circulation for 3 of us (me, DH, DS6) and two show towels to be given to overnight guests.

Show hand towels put out for visitors in bathrooms (on an ordinary day we just flap).

Does anybody else feel a bit weird about the word towel after this??

A new en-suite so new towels required Blush

Have far too many for family of four, plus old ones handed down to the dog (he has his own basket of towels for storage so he has too many as well)

I also do a holiday let so more towels from there, washer on constantly.

Must have 4 sets (bath and hand) me and hubby for new en-suite. Hubby not here in the week not sure what I was thinking buting so many.

Ds has at least three sets (bath and hand) and dd has four sets (bath and hand).

I'm not always here to keep up with towels that teens/young adults use so having more makes less pressure on getting laundry done.

On what planet are we including bath mats in the towel category?? You are talking about the fluffy thing on the floor next to the shower, right?

That is not a towel. It's a rug with a job.

2 each and a suitcase with half a dozen beach towels in for holidays.

Well I've had to build an extension to house the show towels, bath sheets, bath towels, guest towels, hand towels, face towels, tea towels, swimming towels, dog towels and cat towels (we don't even have cats). But could I just reiterate crisps point please never chuck out a towel or a blanket or duvet for that matter. Take it to your local animal shelter please!

2 bath sheets and 2 bath towels. We share and I wash them when I think they need it. We only dry clean bodies on them.
Plus 3 or 4 old ones for beach etc.
I expect I'll be accused of all sorts of terrible things now.

Ok so just remembered, hubby has four sets in his flat.

I have four sets at my holiday let, plus four here as spares (next set to go to holiday let).

I have 8 beach towels for 4 of us.

Guest hand towels for the bathrooms are extra again.

Not normal family, shouldn't have posted Confused

Have you all actually gone and counted your towels?!

I have no clue - enough (me, DS18 and DS8). One sheet which was a present in the late 80s and the rest are bath towels and hand towels.
Nothing special for swimming apart from the one DS uses for school and has a name tape.

Are you ever going to use two at once? Are you ever going to use three at once? Assuming not, I think two is fine. You can always buy another if you find you need more

Clearly you don't have teens. None of mine think it is possible to have a shower without using at least 3. Then you leave them in the bedroom, so the next day you are on the hunt for another 3.

Seriously though, what would be the point of throwing out perfectly good towels you already own, to then go and buy some more ? Confused

lowdoor often those mats are stored in hot press with towels, maybe that's why they're being included?

Does no one else have camping bath sheets. We love our 5 camping bath sheets even though we haven't been camping in years. They are very handy for shoving in a bag for swimming or paddling pool fun in the garden.

Just me and 2 DC here on a permanent basis with a visiting DP.

We have 4 bath towels (used by kids) and 4 bath sheets (used by adults) - the older ones non matching ones are tucked away for swimming. 4 hand towels and 3 bath mats. One bathroom at home.

At the caravan we have the same - 4 mats though as there are 2 bathrooms (yes I have more bathrooms in my caravan than my house Grin). Plus 4 designated swimming towels.

I can't bear towel stingeyness. Common sense noni uses two per shower but careful noni likes 3, 1 big, 2 medium. I don't wash them every time and I air dry so kid myself that it's ok.

So…… I went and counted….
10 bathsheets
23 bath towels
8 turkish bath sheets
12 beach towels
26 hand towels
I recently got rid of the old ones
There are 3 of us….. I have a problem!

While I was there, I started counting duvet covers, I stopped at 12. I will go to the textile equivalent of AA tomorrow.

Bathsheets-zero. Too big to dry.
8 bath towels and 8 handtowels here. 2 of each used at the same time, 2 sets go for a wash.

Wow ... I think Yarboo has left my paltry 27 (lncluding a weird object that is either a really stiff towel or a really floppy and anemic bathmat) in the dust. The word towel is starting to look odd to me too now ...

We have loads too. Which is really handy because I'm a clean freak, have a child who loves to splash loads and they're useful for drying the laminate flooring once mopped (if I'm not able to let it dry naturally). Big bath towels I'd say about 15. Smaller hand towels about 15!
