supermarket girls clothes are rubbish and impractical!

We only have Tesco in my 'town' so it is my only option if I want to see/ try on clothes (aside from the charity shop) without a special trip to the big smoke. Dd2 needs shorts so I took her to the shop this afternoon. The girls shorts are all a) short shorts b) stupid pale colours pink white light grey
DD and I unimpressed one grass stain and the shorts are buggered, also if you sit on a plastic chair you get instant hot / stuck to seat back of legs situation ... Rubbish.

Nice sensible black grey and denim longer shorts in boys section. So we got some shorts there but sizing not as good.

Why can't girls have sensible/ practical summer clothes ffs?

and why can't boys wear pink?

I like to spend a little time every week complaining about the gender segregation of clothing in my local supermarket.

I say things like 'what is it about this T-shirt for 6 month olds that makes it unsuitable for a baby with a vagina?'

Yes I got really fed up with boring or star wars choices for ds when he was younger also the ridiculous number of tees with skulls. What is it about small boys that make designers want to cover them with skulls???!!!

Sainsburies is often ok. My dd has a great selection of knee length denim and dark maroony type colours. We got one pair I mint green - never recovered from the first wear - lesson learnt ! Having said that there seem to be am alarming number of white shorts in the boys section too. Not sure my children are the same species as the white short wearing type...

I was in Primark the other day. A woman was perusing a peachy orange T-shirt in the baby boy's section. An older woman (mum or mil?) said 'Ooh it's a bit pink though isn't it?'. First woman agreed and they went to another shop!

YANBU. This why my DD mostly wears boys clothes, often (but not always) with a girly t-shirt or jumper if she wants. She's 5 & we've just started letting her choose daily clothing & what to buy (within reason). Boy clothes are selected more than 50% of the time.

Maybe the prejudice is with you ?? What's the problem with just buying from either section ??

FWIW id just go for cropped legging type things instead of shorts, far more practical for knocking about in.

YANBU, I haven't been into Tescos but Morrissons and Sainsburys are just the same- tight, short shorts (like short leggings)in pastel colours. Asda had some in brighter colours but they were still too short and impractical. It seems to go :girls stuff is impractical, pink and Princess themed, boys stuff is more practical, blue/grey and skull/cars/dinosaur themed. I took dd to a friends little girls party the other day and all of the girls (who were 4, dd is almost 2)were wearing long party dresses. To a bloody soft play centre! They struggled to climb up onto the equipment and their tights were all filthy/getting holes in by the end. Is this just what 4 year old girls wear?

Don't even get me started on shoes!

I find girls way easier to dress than boys, dress over leggings covers every scenario from smart to playing out, whereas boys clothes are often denim or Chinook materials which has far less freedom of movement , and trackies are a bit scruffy. I like the in between leggings and trackies trousers for my DS. And was just thinking it was difficult to get boys shorts which would actually be cool on a hot day, like my dd's short ones from primark

Yep, skulls and dinosaurs for boys. With the occasional truck. Is it some kind of unwritten rule?!

Sainsburys and morrisons got the best clothes at the moment for baby girls

Sainsbury's for me are the best for children's clothes. Their sizing is comparable with Joules

It's the inexplicable numbers on boy's tshirts that get me every time

Sainsbury's often has great, non-fussy girls' stuff. At the moment, they have some girls' things with dinosaurs on, which is virtually unheard of.

Sainsbury's girls clothes are lovely.

Leggings don't fit dd very well as she like me is long in the body and has a high round bum so leggings consistently give her builders bum. She prefers shorts that sit on the waist and are more comfy in the leg. The shorts would be fine in darker colours.

DD doesn't like dresses so she should be catered for. I like h&m stuff it is just a pain for me to be stuck in a town with a Tesco and nowt else. Hey ho. Worse things at sea etc.

Dd wanted a paw patrol hoodle from tesco the other day she got it and at the checkout i was told my 1 yr old ds is to small ffs just because its dark and with male pups not pink with female pups!

My mum bought girls' gloves from H&M for DS- reason? The bunny on them had a tiny, pink bow.

She also bought him glow in the dark skeleton ones that he adored.

I think it's really bad for girls when they're dressed in skirts with no leggings or similar and they go on slides- doesn't it chafe?! Not too mention they won't go down as fast and that annoys them.
