Is this quite bad?

Work in Indian food service..
We get tips at the end of the night, which are split between all the servers and kitchen staff, not the usual routine for a restaurant but what harm.

One of the men, who's quite close with the overall owner of the restaurant who is never around, is generally quite respectful and nice but me and work mate suspect they act lovely but really see us women as lower than them.

A fine example of this is when he splits the tips at the end of night he will ALWAYS give the men in the kitchen including himself, a few euro more then the women.

Always. Not once or twice, I've never come across this in many different restaurants, anyone hogging tips we always split it fairly. So I have no other option as to decide its cause were women and its noted in their culture women are or used to be seen as lower than them.

He always for example gives himself and the men 8\9 euro while he gives us 5 or 6.

Yes, it's bad.

You don't know the reason. Why don't you ask? If it turns out to be because he sees women as lower than men, yes, it is bad (if you're not actually working in a country where this is the accepted norm).

You have experience in the industry, and what you say seems right to me. I can't imagine any good reason not to share tips equally.

Whatever his reason may be, I think you should either ask him and/or discuss it with the owner.

And be prepared to be fobbed off/ignored, and have to stand your ground.

Maybe talk about it with the other waiting staff first and plan a coordinated front.

And why are you not asking where the rest of your tip money is?!

Are you in Ireland?

Yes, its wrong, but not sure of the legal situation if you are not in the UK.
