P4ORN. On a big shiny eff off 4x4. Stuck behind him on the roads today. Felt irritated that someone would pay money to declare their love of porn publicly and concluded he must be an utter wanker. Literally.

There's one near me and I've always thought Shock

L1C L0

I kid you not.

PecanPiePoppet · 22/05/2017 12:49

In fact it's LIC LO but registered with DVLA as LI CLO so it's definitely deliberate.

thefairyfellersmasterstroke · 22/05/2017 12:49

I have one but it's not obvious: my initials plus a reference to a favourite TV show from my youth. Quite a few fans have similar ones.

There used to be a couple of well-known plates driving round Edinburgh, 50BER, belonging to a publican, and SUE 1M presumably belonging to a lawyer. The only one I think are naff are the ones where they're horribly contrived, like the OP's example with a 4 in it, or where they've had to put a screw in a daft place to make two letters look like one different one, e.g. 1.1 to look like a U. And "rude" words, of course.

ilovepixie · 22/05/2017 12:50

A number plate near me says Vodka

PecanPiePoppet · 22/05/2017 12:54

I see another cracker every morning:

BIG RAK

can't remember the exact format but that is what it very clearly spells.
Haven't been able to see if the owner does indeed have one.

RockyBird · 22/05/2017 13:06

There's on round by me that is G17LTY (guilty?) I wonder if it is a crook or a lawyer.

TizzyDongue · 22/05/2017 13:17

Don't understand the appeal of any of them really, so really don't understand rude ones.

Occasionally they make me laugh but don't understand why anyone would spend money on something that after the initial laugh is just a number plate.

My mum has one - a semblance of her name - she is immensely pleased about it and incredibly proud; I find it a bit baffling why she likes it so much.

Her money though

A bit pointless really as he was already driving an Audi
Proper laughing at that! Grin

MrsRaymondReddington · 22/05/2017 13:38

Aw, I hate that so many people think they're twatty! I have one, can't say what it is as it's almost my first name. I love it! Grin

Wornoutbear · 22/05/2017 13:40

I once saw a green merc with the reg P5OUP - it made me laugh & wonder if the owner was a chef? I have a number plate that I had 3 cars ago. I loved that car, so have kept the plate. It's not a name, or anything, just a reg plate.

theymademejoin · 22/05/2017 14:34

Ok. I'm obviously a bit thick but I don't understand the one in the op. Is it PORN with a random number 4 in it? Or is the 4 meant to be a letter or sound like something? I can only get paorn (if it's an A) or paforn (if it's pronounced for/four), neither of which make any sense to me. Or is it some colloquial pronunciation that I don't recognise? Or.......

TizzyDongue · 22/05/2017 15:03

It's meant to be represented the word porn. Not sure why there's a 4 and not an R - I labour under the impression it's costs - all letters is more expensive. However I've no clue where I got that snippet of i information from - or indeed if true!!

theymademejoin · 22/05/2017 15:11

Thank you Tizzy.

Why would you put a second R in porn though? That would be pronounced PRORN, which makes no sense either, as it sounds nothing like PORN.

TizzyDongue · 22/05/2017 15:22

Hmm that'll teach me not to have reread the op on reading your question - thought it was PO4N!!

I'd guess it's so it looks like the word but actually isn't especially as P4ORN reads more like the word than PO4N does

Patchouli666 · 22/05/2017 15:25

One of the landowners who used to shoot and had Labradors and spaniels had the number plate DOG 1N. This was a way before dogging meant carpark voyerurism and instead meant out doing things with your dogs! Happy dogging was a common shooting phrase.
He spent £80k on that numberplate! Posh Range Rover with an oak cabinet in the back with personalised lead crystal tumblers and some £££whiskey and a lovely plate. The dogging thing came to light while we still knew him well and he was very embarrassed! Took him a year to realise too. And drove all round the uk in that time! Said he used to get some very weird looks.

FishwifeInAnotherLife · 22/05/2017 15:27

Y4NBU Grin

theymademejoin · 22/05/2017 15:31

So really, not very clever then. Ah well, wanting a rude number plate but trying to "hide" it, is a bit idiotic. At least have the courage of your convictions if you're trying to shock or offend people.

WellErrr · 22/05/2017 15:40

Some one round my area drives around with B1G B4LL5

No they don't.

TFPsa · 22/05/2017 15:50

all personalized numberplates are dreadful.

this one is worse than most.

Oldraver · 22/05/2017 16:05

There is a lad on one of my ST groups that has the reg..

ST15 XXX (his initials or name). Though he has seperated the 1 and 5 so it now reads

STI 5 XXX, he was trying to flog it and couldn't understand why people were taking the piss.

TwoIsQuiteEnoughThankyou · 22/05/2017 17:22

I'm in to my cars.
If I see, say, a lovely gorgeous fast Italian super car drive past, I think "nice car".
If I see the same car but it has personal plates, I think "what a cock".

waterlily200 · 22/05/2017 17:39

We have one near us. I can't remember the exact configuration, but something like RA6 1PST. Which in first view I was shocked and thought how unfortunate that they have a reg that looks like rapist, how could u not complain and demand it changed??? But they changed cars and have the same reg, they're an older couple so can't help but feel it's a name or initials but I still cringe when I see it.

PuppyMonkey · 22/05/2017 17:54

I don't see the point of them personally, but hey ho. Sorry if that makes me sound in any way judgey but if you're driving round with one, it does kind of make you stand out in a "look at me" way so, you know, people will have opinions.

LarrytheCucumber · 22/05/2017 18:45

I was overtaken by MUM 1E once, which I quite liked but by and large I think they are daft.
