This weekend, we are travelling from the northernmost part of the Lake District National Park to Cambridge, but in no hurry and with enough gear and supplies to spend a couple of nights on the way. We will have a 5 year old and a 18 month old and I am trying to find something fun/interesting/worth stopping off for a look or a day to see or do.

I have had Gordale Scar recommended, but not sure how practical that is to visit with the kids, and after reading about everyone's weird and wonderful interests/obsessions on here last night I thought I would tap into the collective wisdom of Mumsnet for some pointers on places to explore that might not make it onto your average tourist board top 10.

Stop near Telford and do Ironbridge and Blists Hill. We used to do holiday Inn in Telford - cheap, they cooked pancakes for the children's breakfast, there was a pool and a huge park (Wonderland was free if you stayed in the hotel). Ghastly miniature theme park but children loved it.
Then maybe Warwick castle or Gaydon motor museum. We used to only split the journey once and did Keswick to Eastern Ness and a husband year.
