Was this assault?

I need advice, my mum (80) was knocked off her feet by a man walking along who just pushed her over or walked into her, she can't remember what happened. She has a stick but is independent, but he didn't stop and left her lying on the floor kind people helped her up. A few days on she is quite unwell and I feel I should report his action, intentional or not. I think it will be all on CCTV

I would say yes. Especially if she has been hurt. I Would call 101 to discuss.

Pagwatch · 21/05/2017 09:17

I think it's tricky because you don't know what happened. What is it you would want to achieve by perusing it?

QuiteLikely5 · 21/05/2017 09:17

What a horrible man! People who cause harm to the elderly are scum as far as I'm concerned.

i suspect if you pursued this that the police would recognise him because surely a person who does such things has also done worse

littlebillie · 21/05/2017 09:25

Pagwatch In not sure however it occurred to me that this may not be the first time as no normal person would keep on walking

Sadly too many people would just keep walking. He may not have even realised she fell over. Reporting it to the police won't achieve anything sadly.

AlwaysCcakeTime · 21/05/2017 09:36

Fuck yes!!

I'm someone who assumes good intentions, but him not stopping…

Arse

Pagwatch · 21/05/2017 09:39

But littlebillie what makes you sure that it was a 'normal' person?

By all means persue it and I'm terribly sorry that your mother was hurt. I can understand why you are upset and angry. I can just think of several reasons why someone would not react and I'm not sure what you are hoping to achieve.

user1471521456 · 21/05/2017 09:41

If it will be on CCTV, then yes, report it. Police can look at the CCTV and see if it looks intentional or not. If you suspect it was an assault, I don't think it would be wasting their time. Do it quickly though, as CCTV tends to be recorded over quite quickly.

Pagwatch · 21/05/2017 09:46

Yeah, ignore me - do what user says

I'm not convinced that it will turn out to be deliberately nasty but if it will make you feel better then go ahead and see if it can be determined.
I hope your mother makes a full recovery

DayMoth · 21/05/2017 09:49

I agree with checking CCTV but I wouldn't expect too much. Most likely it was an accident and he didn't realise she fell. If he was hurrying and knocked into he may not have looked back.

Topseyt · 21/05/2017 09:57

Yes, report it. However, CCTV is often recorded over pretty quickly afterwards, so you might not be able to rely on it being there anymore.

What a scumbag. I don't believe he wouldn't have known what happened. He is probably a self centred arse.

Hope your mum gets better soon and is able to keep going out and about independently as she wishes.

Was she checked over in hospital after the fall to ensure no breakages?
