Attended my third church wedding in less than a year yesterday. But what amazed me was that the three weddings had EXACTLY the same choice of music! Here comes the bride, all things bright and beautiful, lord of the dance, Jesu joy of mans desiring during the signing of the register and out to Mendelssohn. With everyone so fixated with having the Original wedding these days and so many great hymns and processional pieces of music why oh why are we repeatadly faced with the same pieces of music again and again and if we are going to be stuck with the same pieces can't people pick something a bit more appropriate than Wagners shagging tune and a song miabout nailing someone to a cross and at least occasionally go for Royal Oak for all things bright and beautiful. Even the person who wrote it seemed amazed it was allowed in church! Off to another wedding next week. Won't be holding my breath!

Went in to Purcell's Trumpet Tune but out to Mulet's Carillion Sortie.

The (Cathedral) organist had never had it requested before and thoroughly enjoyed having a crack at something new 😄

DH, DM and I all chose a hymn each and they were all well sung. People just don't attend church any more and secondary school hymn singing is virtually nom-existent these days.

No criticism, it's just a fact, we live in an increasingly secular society that sees church as somewhere for hatch, match and dispatch.

We had a band of friends and family playing music at our wedding. DH's mate was singing. Our first song was Amazing Grace. First thing I said to DH after I walked down the isle was ' You didn't tell me your mate can't sing.' Thankfully, by some amazing grace I've become more encouraging since then.

We had a church wedding - walked down the aisle to Somebody by Depeche Mode. We had the Island Song from Adventure Time, Heroes Symphony by Philip Glass and Such Great Heights by Iron and Wine during the register signing, then walked out to Widor's Toccata.

Not boring I don't think 😉

At my second wedding I walked in to the Feather Theme from Forest Gump and left the ceremony to Bring me Sunshine (Morecambe and Wise).

My daughter had a church wedding, came into Arrival of the Queen of Sheba and out to Mendelssohn. She had At The Name of Jesus, Jerusalem and If I was a fuzzy wuzzy bear.

Lots of smiles at both events.

That Mulet's Carillion Sortie is an excellent choice:-)

Fantastic instrument the organ some years ago now visiting a cathedral in the UK this piece was being played it was Messiaen's La Nativité du Seigneur quite unusual to hear it just like that and when it finished a young girl can't have been more than 12 years old came down from the organ loft ! I asked her who was playing it?, she said she was and she liked paying pieces like that just for the fun of it! Amazing! as is this piece by the same composer as interesting to watch as to listen to played by a bunch of Very skilled17 odd year old's in the main but look out for the unusual ondes martenot a very early electrical synthesizer made around 1930 odd!

I want this played at my funeral only regret is I won't hear it does anyone know of a more lovey sounding piece?.

Not angry in the least, just pointing out why your op might not come across as lighthearted in the way you intended

I had Jesu Joy...playing before we came in, walked in to the Prince of Denmark's march, the recessional was Queen of Sheba, and the hymns were All things bright..., Love Divine All Love Excelling, Praise My Soul and another one to the tune of Morning Has Broken but with different words.

With hymns I thought there was no point having ones that people wouldn't join in with, and as we were using the organist I wanted to choose works they could actually play for the processional/recessional etc. Also in the C of E then (2004) you weren't allowed non-religious music. They are more relaxed now. All Things...was also personally relevant for various reasons.

I'd only been to one church wedding before which had Love Divine... and the Queen of Sheba so I nicked those. The Prince of Denmark I'd remembered from Charles & Diana when I was 5 and had always wanted that one.

Since then I've not been to many traditional weddings so it seemed to me we were doing something different in being traditional...
