To ask DH to shave my pubes?!

smileygrapefruit · 20/05/2017 20:56

34 weeks pregnant. It's fucking impossible! Should I ask him or are there some things that even husband and wife shouldn't share?

Lighthearted relating to the struggles of late pregnancy!

I got DH to trim it with his beard trimmer from about 30 weeks. I remember very clearly him saying on one occasion 'but you're not due for ages, why do we have to do this now?' and DS made his appearance a grand total of 17hrs later...

Serious note - I had an episiotomy and it was a LOT easier to look after and keep things clean with less hair.

wildone81 · 20/05/2017 22:35

I'm 32 weeks and had to get husband to tidy everything up for me last weekend.....was really quite amusing!

Will be getting him to do it as necessary until the child appears Smile

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 20/05/2017 22:39

DH does mine. We both enjoy it and I'm not even pregnant!

Jenwen22 · 20/05/2017 23:48

I got DP to.do mine theoughout my pregnacy. Call it a bonding experience...

tiba · 21/05/2017 02:01

Another one who's DP trims mine using his beard trimmer.
I'm 37 weeks and I haven't been able to do it myself for weeks.
I'm normally an au naturel type, but it was getting out of hand and DP could hardly find a way in let alone a baby finding its way out!

He also trims and paints my toenails for me now I'm living in flip flops.

I wouldn't bother with shaving or waxing though

Sad
Italiangreyhound · 21/05/2017 02:44

smiley I really doubt there is a jungle down there!

I can't believe how many people shave their pubes. Does your dh really care if there is any hair down there, do you?

Congratulations on baby, hope it all goes well.

Italiangreyhound · 21/05/2017 02:44

The baby, not the shaving, I mean!

Italiangreyhound · 21/05/2017 02:46

I am now very curious, how long would it get if you or anyone else did not trim it! I've never shaved mine (except doctor shaved once for a medical procedure unrelated to birth) and it is not at all long.

DoesHeWantToOrNot · 21/05/2017 02:56

I managed to do get it all off the morning dd was born. I was most embarrassed getting stitched up as I realised I'd missed a bit.

I also had no idea she was coming when I done it. Or I'd have left it.

Chrisinthemorning · 21/05/2017 02:58

DH helped me immac mine the day before DS was born by CS. I was in hospital (private room) so we put a chair in front of the door Blush

user1491572121 · 21/05/2017 03:22

Why do people remove their pubes? I'm really interested. What's wrong with pubes?

user1491572121 · 21/05/2017 03:23

I have "a full bush" to quote Samantha from Sex and the City....it's never got in the way of having babies.

Chrisinthemorning · 21/05/2017 06:44

I had heard they shave you in theatre( I was having a CS) and wanted to avoid that.
My scar is very low below my hair line.
The only other time is going on holiday because I don't like the look of pubes sticking out of my bikini.

lilydaisyrose · 21/05/2017 07:42

My DH has done mine for me in late pregnancy - 3 times! Do it!

backtowork2015 · 21/05/2017 08:28

I had a big veet accident whilst pregnant, couldn't see where it was going and left it too long, my inner labia were left bleeding and the resulting chemical burn hurt for daysSad. Don't use veet unless you can see where you've put it

hellomoon · 21/05/2017 08:31

If your DH was present when you have birth previously... then a bit of pine shaving will be water off a ducks back after all he's witnessed before!!

reallyanotherone · 21/05/2017 08:47

Whether or not your pubes are shaved for a section depends on your hospital. It takes a long time to implement change and some are still shaving because thats how they've always done it.

My sections were over 10 years ago. I was shaved for neither. At a major london teaching hospital. They were doing a study during my first, looking at infection rates, mrsa, strep b etc. They had implemented no shaving as they'd discovered it reduced complications. For my second, elective section four years later they had excellent results, and so no shaving was a trust wide policy.

The nhs is not one service anymore, individual trusts have their own policies, so other trusts have to be up to date with their research, decide to implement it, and then convince staff to do it.

I work in a different field but more than once had to stop staff carrying out antiquated procedures that had been shown to be non-effective, if not dangerous. They do it because their training hasn't been updated.

FreddieFlowerdew · 21/05/2017 08:51

You really shouldn't remove your pubic hair before giving birth. I don't understand why your midwife or husband would mind. I had no idea this was a thing!

treaclesoda · 21/05/2017 08:54

I was shaved over ten years ago for an emcs. They hacked away with a dry disposable razor and left me with ingrowing hairs for about 18 months afterwards. And my wound was so badly infected afterwards that it still isn't properly healed. Just last week it got swollen and full of pus. Angry

treaclesoda · 21/05/2017 08:56

Although this was probably in combination with shaving and then not being washed for 36 hours after the CS, so I spent all that time lying in bed with a surgery wound, covered in blood and meconium from when they broke my waters...

BertrandRussell · 21/05/2017 09:06

I do think there is something very depressing about the fact that over the course of my lifetime we have gone from women fighting and winning a battle against compulsory shaving of pubic hair on entering the labour ward to women feeling embarrassed and apologising to the midwife for not removing their own.

reallyanotherone · 21/05/2017 09:23

Yy bertrand.

Treacle that is why shaving shouldn't be done- the bacteria on your skin is able to colonise the micro abrasions from shaving, and then are almost impossible to treat.

lampshadehat · 21/05/2017 09:39

Meh I normally shave but I'm 9 days overdue (yes feel sorry for me) and I'm so over it and I'm certain midwives don't give a shit. Temporary hairy muff is no big deal to me when an actual baby is going to be coming out from down there.

Kitsandkids · 21/05/2017 09:47

I've just read this out to my husband to find out his opinion - I'm also 34 weeks pregnant.

He grunted and said 'if you can wipe your own arse you can manage to do that yourself too if you need to.' He's a charmer!

I don't think my bump must be as big as yours because I could get there if I wanted to. I have noticed I've got a bit hairier (everywhere) during the pregnancy and I do plan to trim down there as I feel overly moist (sorry for TMI) on the actual hair, but there will be no shaving going on!
