To cancel home broadband landline to save money?

Would not having a landline affect my credit rating or be a safety risk?

If I am online browsing the internet for about an hour a day would I be better off using data on a smart phone?

Do you not watch online video?

Can you get a high data package from your mobile provider and do you have a very strong signal?

Mobiles will connect to any service available for emergency calls, so not an issue there. You would need to keep it charged - a landline has it's own power, though many people have cordless phones which have the same need to charge issue as a mobile.

Landline free for over a year here.

I really miss sales calls.

We watch a lot of catch up TV via the internet.That would ramp through mobile data.

Pay 40 quid a month. Broadband only is only two quid cheaper. By safety for landline I mean, in an emergency my kids or a visitor would all have access to a phone. I could live without videos or on demand tv

Many people no longer have a landline, in fact I have a landline and I have no idea what my landline number is, I have it for ease for broad band, however I pay for a service that I do not use, have a look at your options.

Have you shopped around to see if you can get a better deal? I'd struggle without wifi and it's easy to rack up expensive mobile data on your phone without it. I've just got broadband/phone/entertainment pass/calls with now tv for £28 a month - the upfront fee was £22. £24 without calls.

£40 for a mobile seems excessive to me also. I'm now on a SIM only deal after the initial contract period which included the cost of a phone came to an end. I just refused the upgrade and went SIM only.

If it came to the crunch, I'd rather give up mobile than broadband, which can give you far more for your money. I would find a way to change to cheap pay-as-you go mobile and keep the broadband (My monthly pay-as-you-go mobile spend on a phone bought on ebay is about £1.50.)

I suspect that £40 a month includes paying for a phone, and that the contract can't be cancelled. I think you should start looking at what your options would be at the end of the contract if you kept the current phone instead of getting a new contract phone, and tried to get both broadband and the cheapest mobile service.

Going rate for unlimited broadband and weekend calls ( all suppliers have to provide that) is currently £20 including line rental.

The look-at-us-so-cool-no-landline packages are pricier than that -sucker tax. Unless you can't afford to have one installed, have a landline. You don't need to plug a phone in although it is wise to keep a £5 corded job just in case.

Quite a few business packages - certainly from Virgin - come without a landline. In my last role I had a VM business broadband only contract for £30/month on their "basic" connection (100 MB/s).

You could have a very cheap mobile for making emergency calls. Not sure it even needs a SIM card to be able to make emergency calls but I would probably put in a very low cost PAYG sim so it could be used for occasional other calls.

Who else is in your household, do they not need internet access?

I'm with Firesuit, I'd keep WiFi over mobile if it came to ditching one of them. Local coverage is hopeless (London, not Outer Hebrides).

One of the reasons we keep a landline is that the mobile quality can be a little unreliable.

What data package do you have and does your carrier offer unlimited data for a reasonable price and with good coverage?

Before cancelling your home broadband it may be worth to just not use it for a month and rely solely on your mobile data, this way you can approximate what your monthly data usage is/if and how quick the data will run out in the month.
If you cancel your broadband and then find that you always go over your mobile data allowance, you will very likely end up spending much more than what you are now.

I have unlimited fibre, line rental and the sky entertainment package for £30 a month from nowtv, it's also a month to month contract so can cancel anytime. It's a bit cheaper then you're paying now and you're not tied in to a contract if you decide to cancel the whole lot.

Best deal on Moneysavingexpert is currently under £11 for broadband and landline, personally I'd have to up my mobile data by that easily without home broadband. Plus I couldn't send documents etc off my phone as easily

Vodafone's top broadband (fibre) is only only £30 per month and has unlimited data and they don't throttle the speed (purposely slow it down) like a lot of providers. There is also no fee for the landline.

Obviously the non fibre broadband is cheaper. That's just their top package, it's the cheapest on the market like for like apparently. Have a look in their website

£30 for fibre is good but if you don't need fibre, £20 is better . and that mse deal even more so IF you can get it, not everyone can.

Life is way too short to be worrying about data limits.

They did yes but they've completely overhauled it now
