To steal some elderflower sprigs from this tree?

Walking home this evening I passed this enormous elderflower tree in full bloom. It smelled so good! I've been wanting to make some home-made elderflower champagne for ages but haven't found any growing near me. I knocked on the door of the house whose garden it was, but there was no answer, no car in the drive- I'm not even sure the house is occupied, it certainly didn't look like anyone was taking care of it. WIBU to pinch some sprigs?

It's young, still soft growth, not old wood that aleady has hardenend. It's pliable of you bend it gently.

Elder self-seeds everywhere. If you find somewhere there are elder trees growing, you should be able to find plenty of seedlings.

I'm not angry. I'm bemused.

Elderflower is olden days magic and you arent supposed to cut the stems without a ceremony to appease the elves who live in them. You have to apologise and leave them a crystal glass of wine and some music or wind chimes.

Elderflowers only last a few days. It would be really churlish of anyone to refuse you a couple of pints for some wine.
