A bit of background first, DH and I have been together since Uni, for 20 years, we have one DD toddler (3 years old).

Today when we went shopping and were browsing the aisles, DH picked up MARMITE and said 'ooh, I fancy getting this and having it in toast'. I flipping hate the stuff, in 20 years he has never eaten the stuff, that I am aware and now sudden he wants it. I told him I feel betrayed that he never told me he eats this, and worse of all he gave some to DD who also ate it.

Should I LTB?

I like it on hot, buttered toast.

I thought I hated it till I was in my 30s, having been put off it as a child by my mum's usual trick of slathering on any sort of spread half an inch thick.

You really can't do that with Marmite Shock Confused Hmm

LouLouLove · 17/05/2017 21:56

DJBaggySmalls · 17/05/2017 22:00

OP Is he trying to put you off snogging?

CricketRuntAndRashers · 17/05/2017 22:00

DH loves his marmite. I love Cenovis Grin

half and half bread, butter and Cenovis. Camembert, and Cenovis... And pickles! Yum. You're making me really hungry!!

jennieflower · 17/05/2017 22:00

YABVU! Marmite is awesome and my dp agrees with me.

I buy 2 jars at a time and write our names on the lid, DP is not allowed to use my jar as he doesn't clean his knife between buttering his toast and dipping into the jar, leaving butter and toast crumbs on the surface. My marmite jar is pristine and clean. I eat it straight from the jar on a teaspoon and on buttered pasta.

PaulDacresFeministConscience · 17/05/2017 22:04

I feel your pain. After 16 years together, I found out that DH loves Marmite. I'm still not over the betrayal. He was slightly surprised when I told him that had I known about his love for the yeasty filth then I wouldn't have married him.

PickAChew · 17/05/2017 22:07

I wish I could eat marmite without it going through me like a dose of salts.

Wotshudwehave4T · 17/05/2017 22:12

KitKat1985, Booshbeesh- marmite mini cheeses sold in nets (find next to the babybels) They are heavenly

Fartootiredtobeawake · 17/05/2017 22:13

PaulDacres, I know, how do you hide something like this for soooo long? Then drop a bombshell.

I honestly don't know how people eat the stuff. He looks so normal.

TheWhiteRoseOfYork

More like wasp spunk

I bow to your greater knowledge and sexual deviancy Grin

PigletJohn · 17/05/2017 22:16

Patum peperium for me.

Women and children are specifically excluded.

PookieDo · 17/05/2017 22:16

I literally just ate marmite.
I would struggle with being with someone who detested it

Flyinggeese · 17/05/2017 22:17

OP I love Marmite so am wondering how on earth he's kept the urge suppressed for 20 years?

Or has he been partaking in secret and decided now is the time to 'come out'?

Thinking of you at this difficult time. Flowers.

Flyinggeese · 17/05/2017 22:19

PigletJohn I'm with you on that. Gentleman's relish!

Fartootiredtobeawake · 17/05/2017 22:23

I think if I start referring to it as wasp spunk DH might be put off.

I really do not want to be feeding it to my DD.

He has just told me his mum put it in gravy. WHAT??? WHY???

OP posts:
iklboo · 17/05/2017 22:24

I hate marmite itself, but love marmite cheddar.

Fartootiredtobeawake · 17/05/2017 22:29

DJ it's working, if that is his plan. Maybe he should sleep in the spare room until I can get over this betrayal.

OP posts:
Flyinggeese · 17/05/2017 22:30

OP this is how it starts. Casually mentioning trying different things. Before you know it his tastes will be more perverse. Marmite with cheese on toast, then moving on to avocados before you know it. Pushing it slightly further each time.

Bubblesblue · 17/05/2017 22:31

Sorry to hear this OP Flowers

ChrisYoungFuckingRocks · 17/05/2017 22:34

Is this for real?

Absolutely Hashtag! Marmite and the love or hate of it is no laughing matter Shock.

Fartootiredtobeawake · 17/05/2017 22:35

Flyinggeese nooo, I hate avocados too.

I feel it is a slippery slope. I'm just so worried about DD. Is she going to start wanting to try all these different things too?

OP posts:
SomeOtherFuckers · 17/05/2017 22:35

Leave him. Now. Run. He is a liar and you don't know what else he is hiding ..

SomeOtherFuckers · 17/05/2017 22:37

Also I bet your MIL did this to him. She probably forced it on him as a child and now he has marmite issues ... and the cycle of marmite continues with your DD!!
