Re scrunched up clothes in nursery bag

Ok please tell me if I'm being unreasonable to find this irritating or if I'm expecting too much from the nursery (I realise this is a minor issue in the scheme of things!!)

DD(3) will go into nursery wearing a Tshirt and cardy or jumper so she has a layer to remove if she gets hot running around. Without fail, every day she is at nursery, said cardy is scrunched into a tight ball by the nursery staff and shoved in her bag. I've seen them do it before my very eyes...

It has often only been worn for a hour or two but cannot be worn again without ironing as it comes out looking like a rag (I'm not being precious about this; I don't iron most things if they dry reasonably smooth from the wash. My standards are not that high)

AIBU to find this really annoying?! More often than not they get chucked into the laundry bin despite not being dirty

Ours are crumpled up in their bags.

And if they're clean they're put on again the next day, creases or no. And the creases are never that bad. It's cotton not paper FFS.

But then I've never ever ironed a single thing they own. I'm not bloody ironing a F&F hoodie! Hmm

Doglikeafox · 16/05/2017 20:15

Um, I'm a childminder and don't screw children's clothes up into a ball before putting it in their bags! The idea makes me want to laugh.
Why would you screw someone else's clothes into a ball when it takes the same amount of time to fold it in half and place it in the bag.Confused
What if the child needs to wear it again later in the day?
Then again, maybe I'm not the best person to ask. I pick up a 3 year old from pre school and have a real issue with the fact that he comes out every day with dried snot all over his nose and mouth, food from lunch time all over his face and some sort of goo in his hair.
I LOVE messy play, and letting kids be kids, but letting them go around with shit all over their face quite upsets me and I think it's just laziness on the pre schools part Hmm

I agree with
Why would you screw someone else's clothes into a ball when it takes the same amount of time to fold it in half and place it in the bag

GirlcalledJames · 16/05/2017 20:22

Hang it on a hanger in the bathroom near the shower when you use it, sometimes the creases fall out on their own.

BuckinghamLass · 16/05/2017 20:24

Just let her wear the same creased one each day. No biggie.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 16/05/2017 20:27

You are going to have so much fun when she starts school.

Katemustsew · 16/05/2017 20:28

If it's really important to you, teach the child to hang it on her peg instead. The staff will applaud you teaching independence.

Lunde · 16/05/2017 20:29

At 3 my dds were responsible for sorting and putting their own clothes into their bags so they tended to come in many different states - apart from the memorable time that dd1 managed to get through 5 sets of clothes in a single day and the staff had placed the wet, mud-encrusted clothes in a carrier bag.

nocake · 16/05/2017 20:29

Now her clothes come home. At school they don't. We lost count of the items of clothing that got lost when DD was in reception... all labeled.

Yukbuck · 16/05/2017 20:30

It could be her putting it in her bag sometimes! Plus how do you know she's only had it on an hour? Are you working there?

PotOfYoghurt · 16/05/2017 20:31

Why don't you take the cardigan off when you get there and tell DD it's in her bag if she gets chilly?

YouWhatMate · 16/05/2017 20:36

I just put on crinkly clothes and my body heat gets rid of the crinkle after 10 minutes or so. Never ironed anything in my life Grin

diddl · 16/05/2017 20:39

Is it definitely staff doing it?

LittleBooInABox · 16/05/2017 20:41

YABU - my son has lost a shoe. Just one shoe. This week, he is 7! Be thankful it comes home.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 16/05/2017 20:43

First two weeks of school DS accidentally (and yes it was an accident) ripped the sole off one of his new shoes.

CheeseCrackersAndWine · 16/05/2017 20:43

You better get used to it. My DD almost 8 still brings her cardi's home from school like that, no matter how many times I request she at least attempts to fold it before putting it in her bag. Although I can't imagine as an adult doing that myself, I guess maybe if I was running after loads of kids and having to do it constantly all day I would.

shinyredbus · 16/05/2017 20:44

Grin in the nicest way - YABU. There are far too many children to look after and if they had to for clothes nicely for every single child - can you imagine the time wasted?! Be thankful the clothes come back to you! Sometimes, i don't even get my daughters clothes back because its 'lost'. You want the teachers looking after the children, not folding clothes OP Grin

Cleanermaidcook · 16/05/2017 20:44

I work in childcare, yabu i'm afraid.
Today 32 2 and 3yr olds in.
I'm changing a nappy, another child waiting to be done, then one had an accident and needed changing straight away, at the same time one is on the potty in the same room and one on the big boy toilet needing support, then someone chucks a jumper at me saying " johnny has chucked this on the floor put it in his bag so it doesn't get lost please"
No it isn't going to get folded neatly sorry, i'm a bit busy.
In fairness though most of the 3 year olds are able to take off their own jumpers and know to put them in their trays themselves if they're hot, maybe you could ask the staff to support yr dc in doing this?

Good godHmm
yabu

museumum · 16/05/2017 20:49

I just put my ds back in crumpled stuff for nursery. It's only going to get dirty anyway.
Sometimes I just leave the same spare jumper crumpled in the bag all week 😀

Marmitepasta · 16/05/2017 20:55

Yabvu and rather precious

Gallavich · 16/05/2017 20:56

Ahahahahahahaha

Jengnr · 16/05/2017 20:57

What if the child needs to wear it again later in the day?

They can wear it. It's creased, not radioactive.

hopeful31yrs · 16/05/2017 21:00

I understand- I iron DDs clothes as they stack better in her drawers (lack of storage) and it doesn't take that long. It's also easier to pack a bag and her nursery bag when they've been put away ironed and folded. Often she brings her bag home and it's been rummaged through and things stuffed back - like it was difficult to find whatever they were looking for. Annoys the hell out of me... it's lazy and sloppy.
