Hi everyone.

I'm posting for traffic. I'm applying for a job at the moment, and the application is competency-based.

I've been advised to use the 'STAR' technique (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to answer each of the questions.

There are several criteria that need to be met for each competency, and they're all quite specific. It's mentioned that applicants can use examples from their work history or other aspects of their life to demonstrate how they meet the criteria, however all of the criteria seem really specific. I'm getting really stuck on how to show how I meet the different criteria.

Please help if you can! :)

Thanks so much :)

Oh sad that you've decided not to apply. There is a lot of drive for the CS to move away from competencies exactly for this reason - because if you are not used to them they can be very tricky and cause exactly this crisis of confidence. I think if you have already thought of ideas why not fill in the form and send it anyway? With your three separate examples for each one if that's what you've got. You don't have anything to lose if you've already lost confidence!! You sound like a very sensible intelligent person in your mumsnet posts so will probably come across like that in your job application as well! And there will be lots of other non CS people applying who haven't done a competency based app before and will have similar issues.

Meant to add: putting your ideas on paper will help you with your next application if nothing else!

Thank you so much pudding Smile
