Just that really. I know a few and my god do they ever preach on and on about their coconut oil macha powder cacao powder chia seed energy balls and milk industry and calves being killed etc. It's the over earnestness and attitude that they are the most enlightened people to walk this planet that wind me up. It reminds me of being 18 again.

I like the only ones I know in person. All lovely people, and none of them push their beliefs/lifestyle on you. But I don't like the ones you see all over the internet; the ones who call you a murderer for eating honey.

Shitting on people has never worked as a tactic for convincing them to see your point of view. A lot of these internet vegans have yet to grasp that.

hibbledobble · 16/05/2017 09:06

Massive generalisation there.

The vegans I know are not at all preachy, and will eat food occasion ally with small amounts of dairy/egg so as not to offend hosts.

The more I think about it, the more I think I should become vegan (I am a vegetarian who doesn't drink cows milk but had cheese and eggs). It's just difficult as my veggie children love cheese. and I love milk chocolate Blush

JanetBrown2015 · 16/05/2017 09:18

I admire them a lot as I do anyone eating in a healthy way (and the less milk drunk the better in my book!)

anon1987 · 16/05/2017 09:18

Kingirving and there you have it, a vegan who assumes their fridge is healthier 🙄

hate to break it to you but my fridge is like a rainbow too.
Just because I eat meat doesn't mean I don't eat vegetables also, or tofu or dairy free products either.
I just add meat to my vegetables.

How to be offended. A guide to posting on MN
seriouslynowdontbesoearnest · 16/05/2017 09:48

anon1987 I am cracking up at that video

That is EXACTLY the way of talking I am talking about. It's the glazed eyes and earnest speech.

And yes my point is that the sort of person prone to vigilante veganism (love this) was usually preaching about something else before that.

So no I am not being unreasonable. I am just very alkaline.

Can I post this again?

to find vegans really annoying?
seriouslynowdontbesoearnest · 16/05/2017 09:53

p.s. thank you to all the people who helpfully pointed out my post title is a generalisation and that some vegans are not annoying.

WhatALoad - my horse has stolen (and eaten!) a sausage roll and a big mac before!

PickAChew · 16/05/2017 09:58

Of course yabu to hate a whole group of people.

Grow up.

SlothMama · 16/05/2017 09:59

I can't stand preachy vegans, it really does my head in! Be a vegan or whatever I really don't care but don't try and force it onto me. I LOVE MEAT and that will never change!

Like the idiots who went to a cheese festival to protest, cheese is delicious and a few morons with signs won't stop me enjoying it.

Equally I don't walk up to vegans with a slab of meat and wave it in their face, so don't do it to me!

Squishedstrawberry4 · 16/05/2017 10:08

I know many and they are just as preachy as mainstreamers.

However I do think lots of people act like sheep and dont challenge ropey industrial or alternative practices. Multi million pound industries have sold us lots of things that are detrimental to health.

Evangelical vegans are annoying? Yes, evangelicals of any type are annoying. Including evangelical meat eaters. I don't care how bloody you like your steak, when I ate steak I liked it blue too. Leave me to my dinner and get on with enjoying yours FFS.

The vegans I find annoying are the ones who crawl all over vegan FB groups saying things like "I've been vegan for NEARLY TWO DAYS and I have a slight headache. Could this be a calcium deficiency?"

user1482079332 · 16/05/2017 10:29

Long time vegans I've met are lovely and never preach or bang on about it. The new ones are bloody annoying but if they stick it out I'm sure it'll pass. I just scroll past all their foodie animals posts and watch awaken with Jp instead

abbsisspartacus · 16/05/2017 10:29

I don't mind vegans or anyone as long as there is no preaching involved and anyone who tried to convert my children get an earful after the first polite no

We met some protesting vegans once they tried to get my children to watch a nice video I refused nicely and we walked on my son thought they were a cult wanting us to join them Grin maybe it was the cow masks that have him that idea 😆

SentientCushion · 16/05/2017 10:32

Seeing as we're doing cartoons

to find vegans really annoying?
RuggerHug · 16/05/2017 10:34

Another one who has no issue with 99% if vegans, especially since most I know don't mention it unless asked or it comes up. I do take issue with preachy up their own holes meat eaters who think they can shout down how wrong everyone else is. And don't get me started on 'but you won't get any protein'. As long as you're not shoving your opinions or food down anyones throat, go for it whatever you're into.

SentientCushion · 16/05/2017 10:34

What was the video of sparticus?

seriouslynowdontbesoearnest · 16/05/2017 10:35

Thanks for the biscuit lampshade but I'm afraid I can't eat it. As I mentioned earlier up thread, I'm (mostly) vegetarian and jammy dodgers have gelatine in them.

OP posts:
FindoGask · 16/05/2017 10:39

No-one has ever called me a murderer for eating honey. I wonder where all these preachy vegans on the internet hang out? I've never encountered one.

Since most vegans believe that killing animals for food is wrong, of course many will want to persuade people over to their view. If you're secure in your own choices, I don't see the problem.

LauraMipsum · 16/05/2017 10:48

Jammy dodgers were vegan until last year seriously and are still suitable for veggies (they now contain milk protein). Tesco own brand jammy rings are vegan, so you can have a whole packet Biscuit Biscuit Biscuit Biscuit Biscuit

I want a jammy dodger now.

moggle · 16/05/2017 10:52

This thread has been enlightening!! My cousins wife is a massive preachy vegan, posting multiple photos, videos and literally paragraphs of her own precious thoughts on FB every day and it is hugely annoying. She also preaches about home schooling and again it's the way she thinks that all children should be home schooled - she has very valid reasons for choosing it for her children which I totally agree with - but she can't seem to see that many children thrive in a "normal" school environment and also that she is lucky that she does not have to work. anyway this thread has made me realise that if it wasn't veganism and home-ed it would be something else she wittered on about. She is just a natural evangelical!

SentientCushion · 16/05/2017 10:53

Is the world not totally fucked up if people think that watching a video of how their food is produced will traumatise them?
If you cant visit a slaughterhouse then you shouldn't be eating meat imo. If you couldn't look an animal in the eye before it died then it's quite cowardly to eat it all sanatised in a burger.
If it doesn't traumatise you and you have no problem with it then crack on.

SentientCushion · 16/05/2017 10:55

You definitely deserve a Biscuit for this thread, you didn't for a second want an actual conversation you just wanted to puff up your chest as everyone piled onto the vegan bashing
