to find vegans really annoying?

Just that really. I know a few and my god do they ever preach on and on about their coconut oil macha powder cacao powder chia seed energy balls and milk industry and calves being killed etc. It's the over earnestness and attitude that they are the most enlightened people to walk this planet that wind me up. It reminds me of being 18 again.

I don't think badly of vegans, but I often wonder how on earth they made the switch to vegan foods Hmm
I just don't t think they were ever real 'foodies' to begin with 🤷🏻‍♀️
Cue the 'vegan foods are yummy blah blah'
I just love my steak too much. Plus my youngest dd can't have milk due to a metabolic disorder, and that's bad enough without me having to analyse labels for myself as well!

anon1987 · 16/05/2017 01:32

And I second that, all the vegans I know are often very dogmatic and before their veganism it was something else.
Watch this if you want a laugh, he's very funny with all things 'spiritual' m.youtube.com/watch?v=z0O_VYcsIk8

e1y1 · 16/05/2017 01:48

I find Vegans no more cuntish than meat-eaters tbh.

So YABU.

YouWhatMate · 16/05/2017 01:51

I know a couple of vegans and the topic rarely comes up. Maybe you just know a lot of annoying people.

KingIrving · 16/05/2017 02:03

I am vegan. I never comment on anybody's diet, but everyone seems entitled to comment on mine and how I will miss nutrients and become malnourished. And when I mean everyone it is everyone even people who basically live in the local KFC and get their daily veg from ketchup and fries, and I am the one malnourished?
And I am a foodie, thank you vey much. There are tons of vegan types, the same as any human types. Some eat doritos and oreos, other quinoa and fancy berries, and the majority has a wonderful rainbow fridge full of colours and savours

CaoNiMartacus · 16/05/2017 05:39

I'm mostly vegan. I also do ashtanga yoga. Since these two things have the potential to be intensely fucking irritating, I NEVER talk about them.

AlpacaLypse · 16/05/2017 05:48

I agree OP that militant preachy types on my FB feed (I follow a lot of old university etc friends) seem very likely to be militantly vegan as well.

claraschu · 16/05/2017 06:06

I can be very annoying, and I am not even vegan. I bet a lot of the most annoying Mners are not vegan either.
I am vegetarian with vegan tendencies. I still pick up road kill for my neighbours who love to eat pheasant.

Brokenbiscuit makes a good point:
"Vegans are annoying in so far as they remind me, merely by existing, that it would be possible to live more ethically if only I were prepared to make more personal sacrifices. It would be so much easier not to have to think about that."

Midnight0 · 16/05/2017 06:14

kimonolady you just compared being black and being vegan as something interchangeable. Being vegan is a choice. Being black is a persons skin color. , just no.

Midnight0 · 16/05/2017 06:14

no, just no.*

NormaSmuff · 16/05/2017 06:25

i only know children and teen vegans and i worry about their lack of iron, i also worry about what to cook a visiting vegan.

NormaSmuff · 16/05/2017 06:26

and lack of other essential vitamins and proteins.
and that is speaking as a lapsed vegetarian.

i would not be happy if my off spring became vegan, (two out of three are vegetarian)

Natsku · 16/05/2017 06:41

Some are annoying, some are not (and some love to have vegan versus omnivore debates with me Grin ). In my experience its been the online ones that are more annoying and preachy, most vegans I've known in real life don't talk about it unless the subject of food comes up.

I wouldn't be happy about having to cook for a vegan though, purely because I don't think I'd be able to cook a very tasty meal for them and would feel bad - so much of vegan food seems to involve mushrooms which I can't stand so I wouldn't cook them if I were eating the meal too, or curries which I'm only slowly coming round to. Perhaps a lentil curry, I do like that.

Mummyoflittledragon · 16/05/2017 06:41

I find holier than though preachers whether extreme dieters, vegan, Jehovas Witnesses or alcoholics (who boast about not eating to lose weight), extremely irritating.

I understand your annoyance. But I agree with kimonolady. And starting a thread like this is just another form of preaching to me.

diodati · 16/05/2017 06:42

I know a few vegans (friends of my DC) and they're lovely. So happy when I make sure I have food on hand for them that they can eat when they come round. However, there are some vegans who do bang on about it, which annoys me intensely. I have to be meat-eating because I'm extremely allergic to high-protein veg, i.e. legumes & intolerant to egg white, which gives me terrible digestive problems. I feel guilty around vegans and vegetarians but it's not my choice to have these allergies. I don't discuss them, though, unless asked. Maybe it's the militant attitude about some vegans that is off-putting.

frumpety · 16/05/2017 06:42

Oh come now , everyone knows the most annoying people in the world are people who you have to work with, who are on diets and therefore have to talk about food , not eating , eating , how many calories etc at every possible opportunity . Beat vegans hands down Grin

MoominFlaps · 16/05/2017 06:45

Actually as a new vegetarian (not vegan), the most objectionable people I've found have been meat eaters, who seem to feel the fact you've chosen to not eat meat is a personal attack on their own choices.

The vegans I know have never once tried to recruit me.

MoominFlaps · 16/05/2017 06:46

i only know children and teen vegans and i worry about their lack of iron, i also worry about what to cook a visiting vegan.

I made a Thai sweet potato and spinach curry the other day, that was vegan without my realising it. Really not that hard.

MaisyPops · 16/05/2017 06:48

Replace "vegans" in that sentence with "women" or "black people" or "Muslims" or "lesbians."
Does that sound unreasonable to you?
There you go.

Yeah... because finding people who prattle on about their food choices is totally the same as sexism and racism Hmm

That is also one of the most annoying food chats going. How many points something has. Is today a 5 day or a 2 day? Which food group is bad this month but on your next diet will be your saviour?
And don't even think about pointing out to professional diet chatters that maybe it's 'food in - energy out' so eating less/more healthy and exercising is what's worked over time and doesn't require a discussion about juicing (even though I do love making juices)

NormaSmuff · 16/05/2017 06:57

yep, dieters at work are far more annoying, agree wholeheartedly Grin

NormaSmuff · 16/05/2017 07:00

But what about the protein! Wink
my dd is a veggie and is a lentil/bean refuser

lotusbomb · 16/05/2017 07:07

i also worry about what to cook a visiting vegan.

Close friend of mine as a vegan and she came to stay with me for a week (I live in a country that isn't known for it's understanding of why people choose to be vegan Grin. She was the easiest house guest ever. It's amazing what you can find on Pintrest and Instagram! I

Mombie2016 · 16/05/2017 07:24

Coconut oil has a huge carbon footprint and therefore proper vegans wouldn't touch it... Along with things like mango.

dons hard hat

Direct quote from a very obnoxious vegan friend. He was obnoxious before being a vegan, though.

MoominFlaps · 16/05/2017 07:42

I can't bear coconut oil.

KingIrving · 16/05/2017 07:43

I put coconut oil on my hair, not in my mouth
