Right this has pissed me off since Friday. my friend is being unreasonable (( with diagrams ))

On Friday we were in a local cafe, there are two comfy sofas (( Exhibit A )) and we sat down around the same time as two older ladies. We sat chatting for around 10 minutes when a third lady turned up to meet the other two sat down (( exhibit B ))

She immediately started stripping around because there wasn't room for her to.sit down with her friends, glaring at me and my friend, shaking her head and tutting and making a big show.of grabbing a chair from across the room and bringing it over. Even her friends were visibally shocked at her rudeness. Had this not happened I'd have got up.when I clocked she was with the other 2 and moved but this behaviour just made me want to.grind my arse into.the sofa and wax lyrical about how comfy it was.

But what did my friend do when I was in the loo ?? She gathered our stuff together and moved to a smaller table AND gave the lady our free chocolates. Basically killed her with kindness 😑😑😑
(( exhibit C ))

Anyways, would I have been unreasonable to lie across the sofa and feed myself chocolate cake because of the ladies rudeness ??

Yes some old people are very rude. I can tell you as a mid 50's woman though, ageism is real and alive, and it is younger people who are guilty of it.

BastardBloodAndSand · 16/05/2017 11:18

I'm not even that fussed about the chocolate, it's always a dark chocolate orange cream thing or a champagne truffle - neither of which I like.

BUT I always scoff them, free chocolate innit and I always do the scrunchy face thing plus it's the principle, since when we're tantrums rewarded with free chocolate and comfy sofas ?,! Had we done that we'd have been accursed of bullying !!

Your friend is a dick! WTF was she thinking??

Also you didn't use coloured sharpies for your diagrams which is a massive shame. Stop undermining your obvious talents. Close, but no cigar this time OP

YANBU.

BUT! I bet the original ladies have posted on Gransnet about the appalling behaviour of their rude friend and you and your friend have come out of the whole thing very well.

Deploycharitygoats · 16/05/2017 12:00

Happy if you advance with a scythe and a catsbum mouth, I don't think I'll be alone in lobbing chocolate at you. Mass panic as the Grim Reaper descends on Thorntons.

(As an aside, goatshed! I'd love a goat or two. Just little Pygmy ones, they're so bouncy.)

Pigface1 · 16/05/2017 14:37

YANBU solely because I loved your diagrams so much Grin

Contender for Post of the Week!

BastardBloodAndSand · 16/05/2017 17:21

Well hopefully the nasty woman's two nice friends will decide she's a knob and cast her out next time she's a twat

So, was the nasty woman suitably abashed by your friend's kindness? Or did she act all entitled about it, as if that's what you should have done all along?

TheLambShankRedemption · 16/05/2017 17:52

Love a good diagram. Bonus points for halos and horns.

HiggeldyPiggeldy · 16/05/2017 19:12

you don't have an old lady problem you have a friend problem and should LTB totally unacceptable behaviour from her

but first I would make sure that she buys you a huge box of chocolates to replace lost in action chocolates, something like hotel chocolat not shit Thorntons ones

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 16/05/2017 19:42

Grin @ the pictures.

Actually I struggled to get past she immediately started stripping around - nudity and the risk of hot beverage spillage is a Risk assessment nightmare Shock

What you should've done is patted your knees and winked letch like inviting her to sit. She's have buggered off pronto ......

TheLegendOfBeans · 16/05/2017 19:47

I really hope you actually are a courtroom artist 😂

dalecooper · 17/05/2017 17:46

No. YANBU
The woman sounds like a rude twat..... Your drawings are da bomb (as the kids say).

Sparklyglitter · 17/05/2017 17:52

You and the old ladies sat down at the same time, no-one should be moving and of course a newcomer would need to find an additional chair to bring over or they move to another table. Why on earth would your friend do that and while you are in the loo? Although Am so glad to hear this story as my friend did a similar thing. She offered to move up and I ended up sitting next to some random person when I'm supposed to be enjoying being with my friend! Another 2 person table became free so two of our children moved there and I moved around the table! I'm probably not explaining it very well - no great diagrams! ;0) xx

No. Course not.

Dad2TwoMonsters · 17/05/2017 18:02

YANBU - Advanced age does not excuse bad manners.

Go there. Every Day. Take one sofa for you, the other for your bag. Wait for the opportunity to liberate chocolates from her plate when she is distracted.

bemusedmoose · 17/05/2017 18:12

I would have ordered a very large coffee, plumped the cushion and got comfy. She had no right to behave like that or expect you to move Her friends picked a spot with not enough seats as they had either not planned or didn't want her to join them, if any extra person cant fit its etiquette that they move or get extra seats.

As for the chocolate - i would have taken them back! Bad manners deserve no reward!!

Annd yes your friend was completely wrong. However the evil lady sounds the sort to have have taken your seat while you were in the loo and your friend avoided a huge scene (evil lady also sounds the sort to make have a loud argument).

I hate people like this with a passion!!

Jaxhog · 17/05/2017 18:18

I had no idea Thornton's have cafes! None near me unfortunately.

It isn't just older ladies who do this. I've seen mum's with prams, teenagers etc. etc. try this one. Never forget that once you have a seat on a sofa, you own it. Great diagram!
