C-Section and make-up?

I have a planned c-section on Tuesday and at our pre-op class and clinic visit the midwife mentioned that nail polish was okay, as long as it was pale/neutral, as was makeup.

I mentioned to OH that I planned on painting my nails a pale nude/pink colour and will be applying my normal make up in the morning before we go. He thinks I'm bonkers and cannot understand why I'd do it.

My normal routine is concealer (my hormonal skin is horrendous atm), a mineral powder foundation, eyebrows filled in lightly, mascara and lip balm. It's not ott but enough to stop me feeling self concious about spots when in public, nail polish helps me feel more together.
I hope that it will make me feel slightly more myself post birth and during the first visits from family.

Aibu in applying it before we go?
Would you apply it if you had the chance?
Am I being awfully vain (OH hasn't said this, just thinks makeup before an operation is bonkers)?

I had 2 emergency C Sections and 2 planned and was not allowed make up or nail polish . I must add my youngest was born 13 years ago though . PS I wish I could have worn a bit of foundation to be honest but there you go

HeyHoThereYouGo657 · 16/05/2017 15:38

Best of luck OP . Make up or not Grin

I expect your little one is here now . Congratulations

They will ask you to take off makeup and nail varnish (I did both for an elective after a horrible emergency cs first time around!)- the nurses need to check the colour of your nails during the procedure and the same goes for your face. Unless the rules have changed since!

I would if I were you, you've been given advice by the medical staff that will be looking after you, if you want to look fab for your first pictures, go for it!

kaytee87 · 16/05/2017 18:51

Wonderful news, congratulations :) xxx

Aww congrats OP, enjoy baby and hope you recover quickly. All I want to say now is.. PEPPERMINT PEPPERMINT PEPPERMINT! A huge part of the pain is trapped wind but they don't tend to give anything for that. I had DP get me some peppermint oil capsules, I farted all night on day 3 (at home! Wink) and could walk properly the day after and half the pain had gone.

Fl0ellafunbags · 17/05/2017 10:55

Congratulations!

Oh the bliss of when the peppermint magic works.

sailorcherries · 17/05/2017 14:14

Thank you, got some peppermint water but I'll get OH to get peppermint tea/capsules for home.
Apparently I have diastasis recti though, so more outpatient and physio appointments once I'm out and a fetching piece of fabric to wear until it starts getting fixed.

V well done - enjoy your new daughter Smile

I do not understand why anybody would want to take any chances with their health at the birth of their baby. I understand it even less when the reason for taking that chance is to look nice.

TurquoiseDress · 17/05/2017 20:46

Congratulations OP! Grin

Glad to hear that baby arrived safely

Happy to hear you went with the make up & painted nails!

Honestly, I wouldn't think much of a healthcare team who were unable to spot you becoming unwell just because you had a bit of make up on & painted nails (and I totally understand the concept of pulse oximetry)

icelollycraving · 17/05/2017 20:59

Congrats!!! Flowers 💄
