DP: Who is that guy? (on TV)
Me: he's that american guy who had that show
DP: Oh yeah. What's his name?
Me: Can't remember but the was in that show where he had phone ins.
DP: yeah, that's right and he had a gay brother?

It was Kelsey Grammer. We both knew who were were talking about and what show we were talking about but I had to bloody google it in the end.

We talk like this all the time. It's that bloke off that advert, the shampoo one! Oh yeah, he was married to her off the telly wasn't he? Yep!

It's like we are both talking in a secret language that only we understand!

Please say it's not just us.

Nope. Never watched Frasier. Or Game of Thrones. Or most of the other stuff most people watch. I do read a lot though.

This kind of smug 'I'm intellectually above television' doesn't work so well in a thread where you've already admittedly to watching Casualty!

MycatsaPirate · 15/05/2017 10:25

ODFOD. I have never said I'm intellectually above watching tv. I just prefer to get lost in a book. Plus we get so busy in the summer months that we really don't watch much TV. So casualty is something that we can dip into whenever. If it makes you feel better I did watch the entire Good Karma Hospital series because I loved it. But that's pretty much the only entire series I've watched in years. And wasn't Frasier on years ago?

Smug. FFS. There's always one person who tries to ruin a lighthearted thread.

Ha ha. Well, yes many of our conversations do START out like this. But then both of us NEED to KNOW the name of the actor/celebrity, so we HAVE to Google whilst watching.

So it moves on .... and then we say, oh yes, yes. its ....... Alexander Skarsgård... yes, he was Eric, wasn't he ....... (for example)

TearDrop that is FUCK Funny. Grin

RecherchedeTemps · 15/05/2017 11:32

Or this conversation:

Me: says something
DH: mumbles non-committal reply
Me: What did I just say to you?
DH (looking sheepish): Sorry love, I wasn't really listening...
Me: Hmmm...neither was I and now I can't remember what I was talking about....

Awkward silence ensues.... Grin

'Where's the thingy?'
'In the whatsit, next to the doodah'
'Oh right yes got it'
Hmm

StrawbRhi · 15/05/2017 12:09

Completely unrelated to anything we were watching or talking about at the time.

Me: "who's that dickhead who's not Adam Sandler?"
DH (straight away): "Ben Stiller"
Me: "that's the knobber."

He gets me on a level no-one else does.

These conversations happen on a regular basis in our house.
last night watching the Durrells
Me: gosh its whats-her-face, she wears well
DH:, Oh yes her, wasn't she in thingy
Me: She was in a childrens programme with that bloke
Ds2 :Yeh with the bloke that was once Doctor Who
DS2's girlfriend: My Mum said she used to be in Cliff Richard movies.

I think Ds2's girlfriend will fit in very well with our family Grin

DH and I have a sort of telepathy about when it's time for a takeaway. Even when we have plenty of groceries in and meals planned, some days one of us will look in the fridge...then we'll look at each other...and someone will reach for the Chinese menu.

But yes, to answer the original question, we once had this conversation:

"That's him, isn't it? from that gangster thing?"
"Nah. That was 20 years ago. He's too young."
"20 years??"
"Afraid so."
"So where do I know him from?"
"Dunno. He was in that thing you didn't watch."
"Oh."
