It is rather dangerous, noisy and vulgar. AIBU to dislike it?

The ones where I live are about 8-10. They run out in front of cars because they think its funny, they broke someone's fence by repeatedly kicking a ball at it, oh and when my mum came to visit me once she nicely asked one if she could get past their bike on the pavement, the little shit hit her in the back and gave her abuse.

So no YANBU if the kids are anything like the monsters near me, if they're just kids playing nicely then give them a break.

My two loved playing out when they were small and played in back gardens too.

I bet they turned feral as a result, snarling, walking on all fours and squabbling over bones from
the butcher's.

Grin PMSL Bunty!

This from @sailorcherries made me hoot a bit too (page 1.)

My son sits in the corner of the room, not making a noise and pretending he doesn't exist. People of any age socialising is disgusting.

There was a scene in a TV) programme called pure genius where someone was snobby about playing on the street. And so someone showed her a map of the area, there were no big parks or greenery to play on YABU.

And gardens aren't generally big enough to play most games

Agree, FrancisCrawford.

Development of social skills & learning to handle situations is vital for our teenage generation. A group of young teens around our area campaigned for a dog waste bin as they were fed up of playing football and ending up with dog waste in their shoes.

They won their social action campaign. Local teens here are rambunctious at times, but a quiet tap on the window can be enough. Children and young people are just as much a part of local communities as any other person.

My children play out in our cul de sac. As a result of this Lord of the Flies style upbringing, they have gained some wonderful skills such as tormenting the elderly, hunting and eating local wildlife, and making Molotov cocktails out of popping candy and Sprite. It gives me plenty of time to relax indoors with my tin of special brew, and when the zombie apocalypse comes, my children will head the new world order while yours will be, I'm sorry to say, screwed. I suggest you cut back on Tarquin's mandarin classes and send him over here for a playdate with my little Malibu.

No they should just be sat at home using tech like XBoxes and getting overweight instead of running around in the fresh air. Everyone knows that!

It kept the thread active Zil, which seems strange if you thought I was a troll. We don't want to encourage trolls now, do we?

I don't know if we are the same we or you are a different hairy handed we than me. So I can't answer that question. What I do know is that my game of scrabble was ruined.

I think children are noisy, vulgar and dangerous full stop 😉. Why oh why are they not now either at boarding school until grown up or sent up chimneys out of sight and sound.

What's with all the kids playing outside threads? Confused

Unless they're having a football match on the street at midnight like some neighbours did in our last house I really cant get worked up about it.

My children play out in our cul de sac

You're lucky. Our children aren't allowed in our nearby cul de sac. Because the uptight twats think it's private and they don't want to catch poor from their council neighbours.

They dont mind risking catching poor when parking their zillion vans outside our numerous houses though.

I played out as a child from a very young age (70s/80s when it was the norm), so was presumably 'feral & vulgar'.
My kids have been allowed to play since they were small too - but it's the norm where we've lived for young kids to play out.

They are now 12 & 15 - not only are they 'feral & vulgar', they are also independent, resilient, innovative, sociable, self-confident, self-aware and able risk assessors.
They still spend more time out now than they do on games consoles or online and I'm ecstatic with that tbh.

Too right, OP.

Kids should be kept inside, chained to their games consoles/laptops/tablets where they can't be seen or heard, lest they disturb the Hyacinth Buckets of the world with their vulgarity.
