To be massively unimpressed by the Autism Speaks adverts

Come on, MN. Why are you displaying adverts from such a hateful, ignorant organisation? One that advocates a cure, eugenics, is hated by so many people on the autism spectrum and fervently believes in the anti-vax movement?

Urgh.

yes Coffeemachine the same mumsnet.

AndNowItIsSeven

Is it becuase of autism or becuase of the struggle and discrimination your children (and you?) face each and everyday. is it caused by autism or the forcing of 'normal' behaviour onto them in a world in which people refuse to learn and adapt for?

The fact that there is no understanding or support makes it very hard to be a perosn with autism.

hazeyjane · 15/05/2017 09:24

Hang on, there are many (the majority) on mumsnet who would not agree with barring children with disabilities from an event - mumsnet isn't some borg like hive mind.

coffeemachine · 15/05/2017 09:46

oh hazey, I vividly remember this thread and it made sad reading....run a search (if it hasn't been pulled).

Polidori · 15/05/2017 10:12

coffeemachine I think you may be missing the point. Noone disputes that such a thread occurred. We're just pointing out that there isnt, as you suggest, a single MN view.

RoseGoldProsecco · 15/05/2017 10:37

No, coffee machine - it's "the same mumsnet" that has hundreds of thousands of posters. It's a forum, not a person.

JustAnotherSilentOldNumber · 15/05/2017 12:17

mumsnet isn't some borg like hive mind.

you say that but you must have seen thread where posters run away with the mob mentality / bandwagon jumping.

TheRealPooTroll · 15/05/2017 12:20

There may be hundreds of thousands of members but many don't post and less so on the sn threads. There is a very vocal group who post about not wanting sn kids in ms schools or inconveniencing their kids at clubs including school staff.
It is actually the same view that AS have. Rather than making life easier for children with asd and their families through better provision you should just make them disappear.

CarolineMumsnet · 15/05/2017 20:52

Hey folks, we've looked into this and it seems the ad you're seeing is
generated by a third party. We do block ads that aren't aligned with the Mumsnet ethos, but it's unavoidable that some do still slip through, we're afraid. We have now blocked this one, so you shouldn't see it anymore and we're really sorry for any distress caused. Flowers Please do let us know if you see anything else we should look at.

Thank you, Mumsnet!

Well done Mumsnet. I wasn't aware of this awful group till this thread. I watched the video of the mum talking about wanting to drive herself and her daughter off a cliff in front of her daughter and it was truly one of the most awful things I have ever had the misfortune to see. They seem almost cult like in their misguided beliefs. Horrific.

WavingThroughAWindow · 22/05/2017 20:50

Ugh. I hate this organisation more than I hate my meltdowns.

TheWitcher · 24/03/2018 18:44

Still seeing the ad. Using Chrome on Android.

SluttyButty · 24/03/2018 18:47

WHAT? MN are advertising that vile company who should be taken into space and jettisoned out into the ether? 😱 Bad form MN, bad form!

TheWitcher · 28/03/2018 20:10

Screenshot if it helps.

Still seeing this ad.

Aeroflotgirl · 28/05/2018 16:57

Oh Hazley, what a creepy nasty and vile advert. Reminds me of those public information ads of the 1970s, dark and dangerous water. Actually my dd 11 can do all of those things that the advert has said, I find my NT ds6 harder than dd actually. It is propergating hate, and bigotry. Since going to her Special school 5 yeRs ago, dd has really flourished, so up yours Autism speaks, they are no better than KKK.
