My child's class is going on a school trip in the town a mile and a half up the road. I know it doesn't sound far but I use the before school and after school club so I won't be able to drop off / pick up in that town.

The school are saying, no problem, my child can stay in another class for the day and do some topic work.

AIBU to think the school is being unfair and it's their responsibility to make sure the children of working parents aren't penalised?

I really wouldnt point out its their responsibility.

There must be others in a similar position. Just look at the options and sort it. If you would rather leave ds behind then ask a favour then YABVVVU. A bottle of wine or box od chocs and you are evens.

No, nobody in the same class uses before / after school clubs.

Chocolates an even easier idea! Thanks Smile

I'm a SAHM and I often help others with that sort of thing. I really don't mind and don't expect anything in return as I think that it's all swings and roundabouts. I don't think you should feel bad about asking for help on this occasion regardless if you can return the favour or not. It's not of your doing and a one-off - I would be surprised if you don't find other parents understanding and and the end of the day it's your little boy who will benefit if you can ask for help. Agree though that the school should help you sort it if they have created the problem!

Yes - I'll ask the teacher. I'll point out that it's their responsibility as they organised it.

That isn't how I would approach it.

If this is a trip linked to the curriculum topic and the transport is the only issue he really shouldn't be missing out.
