Left my toddler in the car to pay for petrol - I could see him while paying - and a stupid woman called security cause my 3yo was crying and shouldn't be left in car...... Eh??
WTAF? She's never seen parents leave kids in the car to pay for petrol? WTF is that about?

If he's crying, he's either scared or sick

Sorry HildaOg I have had 4 children, grandchildren and am foster carer so lots of experiences with many different children. I can assure you that children cry for reasons other than being scared or sick - previous posts can give you many examples and there are hundreds more. Totally disagree with you, I'm afraid.

Has no one ever read CuttedupPear?

unicorn1225 · 11/05/2017 17:07

Tootsiepops
Not being a GF, but do people leave babies in the car too? I've always taken my LO (18 months) in to pay. I have an overactive imagination and worry about explosions / robbery / car jacking / joy riding / car crashes / petrol fumes etc.
I could have written this exactly - I also have an overactive imagination -anxiety disorder- and an 18 month old. I never leave her in the car! but wouldn't judge OP. I should be on medication! :(

Figgygal · 11/05/2017 17:07

With ds1 I used to take him in with me on occasion especially if it was garage with a Tesco express where some people seemed to do their weekly shop and it would never be a quick petrol payment.

Dianneabbottsmathsteacher · 11/05/2017 17:07

With security guards

BaggyCheeks · 11/05/2017 17:09

If he's crying, he's either scared or sick

Reasons my DC (aged 2 and 4) have cried today:

  • We only had Rice Krispies and not Cheerios for breakfast (4 yo)
  • I wouldn't let the two year old jump into the pond in the park to see ducklings up close
  • The 4 year old's pants were inside out when he pulled them out of his drawer.
NerdyBird · 11/05/2017 17:10

I've never put fuel in the car. DP does it when he goes to collect the shopping. I'd probably leave dd but I'm a worrier so I'd be nervous the whole time. Pay at pump is so handy!

splendide · 11/05/2017 17:12

Statistically it's safer to leave your child/children in the car rather than walk them across a forecourt. Just putting that out there

I'm pretty sure it's also safer to leave a child in their cot at home while you get the petrol rather than drive them to a petrol station. These things are so cultural, I find it really interesting.

Dianneabbottsmathsteacher · 11/05/2017 17:12

Hilda have you even seen a 3 year old? Wink

Cornishware · 11/05/2017 17:15

I have never taken my pair in when paying for petrol, they are much safer in the car than wandering around a garage forecourt and when babies I wasn't dragging their car seats about. Dcs do cry for lots of reasons and in this case the OP would be back very shortly so the Dc would be reassured. I don't think I have often seen people taking Dcs out of the car to pay.

MycatsaPirate · 11/05/2017 17:17

I really would much rather people leave their kids in the car while paying. The last thing I want is to risk running down a toddler who has escaped from the shop because the mum has three kids with her and is juggling car keys, purse and a bank card and can't keep an eye on the kids as well.

I would suggest you find a pay at pump station in future though.

Itsokaytobeshy · 11/05/2017 17:21

I had 3 DC under 5 years. There was no way I was ever going to drag them into the shop to pay with me! I can only imagine how irritating it would be waiting for me to wrestle them into the car seats again if there were drivers waiting in a queue for a spare pump!

Mummyoflittledragon · 11/05/2017 17:21

WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU TAKE A CHILD OUT OF A CAR TO PAY FOR PETROL ON A FORECOURT.

Because said child refuses to stay in the car? Perhaps you haven't had one of those. Dd refused for me to leave her in the car till she was at least 7. Same deal with birthday parties. She would have been beyond scared. Different kids, different triggers

KeiraKnightleyActsWithHerTeeth · 11/05/2017 17:22

How long were you in the shop for that it gave her long enough to fetch or phone security?

SnapJack68 · 11/05/2017 17:22

How did she call security?! I thought using mobile phones at a petrol station was a big no due to risk of the signals triggering an explosion or something of the sorts thays too complicated for me to undestand or question!!

Sparklingbrook · 11/05/2017 17:27

I never knew Waitrose petrol stations had security guards. Shock

KeiraKnightleyActsWithHerTeeth · 11/05/2017 17:28

To protect the really, really expensive and rarified petrol from that Aldi lot sparkling.

isadoradancing123 · 11/05/2017 17:28

How stupid is it to say they cry for a reason, no they don't, they cry for sweets and then it might be the wrong sort, they cry because their banana breaks when you peeling it, they cry because their grapes are halved, etc etc

Sparklingbrook · 11/05/2017 17:29

Oooh yes good point Keira. The artisan petrol. Grin

Lalalallama · 11/05/2017 17:36

Discusting. You could have at least left your child with a fag and box of matches whilst you went to pay.
Grin

redshoeblueshoe · 11/05/2017 17:47

Get a set of fake number plates and just drive off. Sorted.

Yvetteballs · 11/05/2017 17:47

Never occurred to me to leave DD in the car at a petrol station until she was a lot older than toddler age.

requestingsunshine · 11/05/2017 17:49

I left mine in the car when paying for petrol. No way I was taking 3 under 3 year olds to pay for petrol! I'd cause a massive queue with the time that would take. And I have left one in there crying before because well I needed to pay for the petrol and she was strapped in her seat and I wasn't going to start with the taking them in every time. Guess what though? She was fine 5 minutes later and hasn't as far as I know suffered any mental health issues as a result.

BluePeppers · 11/05/2017 17:56

I always left my dcs in the car whilst paying. ,uch easier and much safer than trying to move a baby in its car seat and a toddler in the middle of a court with moving cars!!

youarenotkiddingme · 11/05/2017 17:58

I always leave ds in car when I pay for petrol.

Many a time he's cried.

Usually because I've refused to buy him sweets whilst paying for said petrol.

He's got over it everytime without the help of security!
