Holiday - posting for traffic!

Naturebabe · 11/05/2017 13:53

Does anyone want to but a last minute holiday from me?
Posting here for traffic. I have messed up and didn't realise that ds 5's passport runs out next week. 1 week to renew.

Holiday is with Thomspon. Family life hotel.
Leaving 15th May for 1 week. 2 adults and 2 children.
Location is perfect for children - Majorca Coma Gran

www.thomson.co.uk/destinations/europe/spain/majorca/sa-coma/apartments/tui-family-life-coma-gran.html

I bought for £1,400, but would sell for £1,000

Or can anyone think what else I can do?

One last idea to save your holiday....

Book a 1 way budget flight back to the uk for you and ds for the day next week his passport expires. At check in you show that to the agent and explain that you are having to come back early due to passport expiry. You will then be allowed to fly.

Once you get there, you can enjoy your few days and come home on the budget flight. But IF you 'accidentally' miss it... you should not face any real problem boarding your original flight home, as UK citizens returning to the UK.

pissingglitter · 12/05/2017 19:54

I would phone airport security at the airport you're flying from and see if they have any useful advice it would be worth a shot to save your holiday

Empireoftheclouds · 12/05/2017 20:05

HarrietKettleWasHere · 12/05/2017 20:07

Surely the useful advice to have a passport Confused

pissingglitter · 12/05/2017 20:14

Agreed but they possibly might have some advice which would allow the OP to travel

Empireoftheclouds · 12/05/2017 20:20

Agreed but they possibly might have some advice which would allow the OP to travel yes - get a passport

yoursforthetalking · 12/05/2017 20:23

Poor OP, this stinks.
Even if you could sell your holiday, would Thompson change the name on airline tix and hotel reservations?

user1490734428 · 12/05/2017 20:30

Could you still go on the holiday and get a family member to look after Ds5? How old are they?

fizzytonicplease · 12/05/2017 20:40

My brother has just done a renewal for his two children, and they were back within 5 days!

BigGrannyPants · 12/05/2017 20:52

If you're prepared to lose the holiday completely then surely it's worth sending the forms to the passport office. Send it recorded delivery and mark it urgent, they are normally very good at sending it back to you quickly.

DontOpenDeadInside · 12/05/2017 21:19

I'm going away on Tuesday with Thomson and I had to input all our passport numbers/expiry dates in at least 2 weeks before travelling. How did you not notice then?

Lalalallama · 12/05/2017 21:30

Like i said on page 1 of this thread. I travelled with a friend to Spain and back
(1 week). My friends passport had expired.
We flew out abd in and the check in staff knew and noticed it outbound. They made a few phonecalls (not sure who to). We flew out. Enjoyed our week and flew back. No problems all on an expired passport.

I dont know the ins and outs but based on this i would be phoning my departure airport to see what they have to say.

wingingitmostdays · 12/05/2017 21:38

We very recently sent our little one's first passport application to the passport office (these take longer than renewals because of security checks) and it was back within a week. I called a few times and was told that once the application is in then they can escalate it internally when there is less than one week to go before you travel.

I'd head down to your post office tomorrow, do the check and send and then call the passport office on Tuesday to escalate.

Good luck x

wingingitmostdays · 12/05/2017 21:40

I realise I got your dates wrong, sorry.

I'd call your local office first thing, I am pretty sure they can hurry this along for you based on the info I was given just a couple of weeks ago x

CoolioAndTheGang · 13/05/2017 01:55

When I flew last time, to check in online you had to fill in all your passport details including the expiry date.

Yukbuck · 15/05/2017 22:36

Any update op?

SugarnetMum · 15/05/2017 22:57

A passport doesn't take an awfully log time , unless you have time.

If you're travelling in 3 days, you can easily get a last minute one. All it takes is you willing to get all necessary documentation, and upto the office. Move fast. They often get yours done straight away if you have proof of travel

SugarnetMum · 15/05/2017 23:02

Jeez people like you annoy me.

On here wasting time every post saying "what a waste guess that's 1500 down the drain :( " when its all in your hands.

You could of easily had that passport back in time. I hope you did act on it. If not, you're very silly tbh and enjoy your time at home in the rain knowing if you actually made an effort you might of had the passport!

PhilMcKraken · 15/05/2017 23:16

Sorry but I have no sympathy. Not once have you even said thank you, I appreciate the advise - even if it has become repetitive. You jumped straight into defensive mode and started snapping at people who were trying to offer you valid options.

Nobody was going to pay you £1000 for a holiday for which they would also have to pay £££ to change ticket details.

Also - I'd be prepared for your insurance to refuse to pay out on this - just a warning so that you don't get your hopes up and get burned.

I hope your DC aren't too upset.

SnickersWasAHorse · 15/05/2017 23:24

I would be amazed if the insurance did pay out. It's not an accident or an unavoidable error.

fannydaggerz · 15/05/2017 23:33

You can just turn up at the passport office and sit and wait.

innagazing · 16/05/2017 00:47

If you or your child were really ill today, just as you were due to travel, then you would have to cancel the holiday and claim on your travel insurance.
I'd get on the phone asap and make a claim and see your gp about your child having D&V today

BritInUS1 · 16/05/2017 00:57

And that would be fraud innagazing

CoolioAndTheGang · 16/05/2017 01:04

We should just admit we've all been had. Another threwad with no sign of the "op".
Maybe she's still in the passport office Grin

Dixiestamp · 16/05/2017 02:28

I agree, Coolio. She'd have to have acted on the advice given on the first day - if it was real- to have had a chance of getting sorted. Instead, she was still procrastinating and dragging it out days later.
