Holiday - posting for traffic!

Naturebabe · 11/05/2017 13:53

Does anyone want to but a last minute holiday from me?
Posting here for traffic. I have messed up and didn't realise that ds 5's passport runs out next week. 1 week to renew.

Holiday is with Thomspon. Family life hotel.
Leaving 15th May for 1 week. 2 adults and 2 children.
Location is perfect for children - Majorca Coma Gran

www.thomson.co.uk/destinations/europe/spain/majorca/sa-coma/apartments/tui-family-life-coma-gran.html

I bought for £1,400, but would sell for £1,000

Or can anyone think what else I can do?

shows on the website you can do 1 week fast track: Renew or change a child passport for £87
www.gov.uk/get-a-passport-urgently/cost

Naturebabe · 11/05/2017 15:15

oddly, the Thomson site has just accepted our details - and sent us e-tickets for the airline. But I'm concerned with my son's passport expiring out there, we would be stuck in detention on the way back. Would you risk it?

OP posts:
Naturebabe · 11/05/2017 15:20

1 week fast track not enough time indeed

SurlyValentine · 11/05/2017 15:22

The Thomson website won't cross-reference passport numbers and know that your DS's is going to expire!

It sounds like you'd rather spend your time on here trying to sell the holiday for whatever you can get, instead of trying to sort your child a new passport.

TwoBeams · 11/05/2017 15:24

In your position, yes I would risk it. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 11/05/2017 15:26

Yes I'd risk it if it expires while you're away! Plead ignorance if you're pulled up on it

VerySadInside · 11/05/2017 15:27

Leave DS at home. He's 5, he doesn't need a holiday.

puddingpen · 11/05/2017 16:20

They will check your passport at the gate and might not let DS on if passport is expiring.

I would:

  1. Do the one week fast track service. If it arrives in time, all is good.
  2. If passport has not arrived, try to get on the flight. If you get on, brilliant. Get family member or neighbour to get passport when it arrives and courier it over to the hotel to fly back with.
  3. If DS is denied boarding due to passport, you take him home and other adult (DP?) and child go on ahead. You join on no frills flight once passport arrives.

Sorted.

Naturebabe · 11/05/2017 16:47

Surly - what are you on about?

Can't go without ds, it's a family holiday all based around the kids.

Gutted.

They do same-day passports for children who have existing passports. They will not do sameday first time passports. They are advising you incorrectly.

Groovee · 11/05/2017 16:50

Get a new passport filled out online. Get his photos done and pay online. I got my dd's back in 6 days.

Empireoftheclouds · 11/05/2017 16:52

No one is going to give you £1k for a £1400 holiday and then have to pay to change all the tickets Confused

Just be pro active and sort the passport asap. One of you regale with one child and the other ones catch up when passport is through.

Gatehouse77 · 11/05/2017 16:52

Odd, I did a day renewal for my 14 year old...

Empireoftheclouds · 11/05/2017 16:53

Oh and without a shadow of a doubt your DS will not be allowed to fly out when the passport expires mid holiday. Don't even waste your time

Wando1986 · 11/05/2017 16:53

Also why didn"t you just renew it and you and ds go on new flights and join them the day it arrives. Though tbh I'm having a hard time believing you managed to book it without knowing their passport expires while you're over there. When booking with Thompson they specifically ask you to check passport names/expirey at the time of booking and stress it quite a lot.

Wando1986 · 11/05/2017 16:55

Gatehouse77 they do same-day renewals for kids, we've done them before too, so not sure what OP is even blathering about unless she can't be bothered going to her nearest passport office. I reckon she just wants to flog the holiday.

Lala241280 · 11/05/2017 16:58

If you look on the FCO website you can apply for an emergency travel document
Don't know if this will be any good ?

Naturebabe · 11/05/2017 17:07

Wando the guidelines have been updated. Here: www.gov.uk/get-a-passport-urgently/cost
Lala - yes again can't seem to do the emergency doc for under 16s.

Have do admit defeat I think :(

I'm stuck at a work conference today..... so unless I leave this paid for conference, this is why I'm info gathering.

Hulababy · 11/05/2017 17:09

Can two go out straight away and the other two join them a couple of days later, using the 1 week fast track system?

Hulababy · 11/05/2017 17:10

This is the emergency travel document information: www.apply-emergency-travel-document.service.gov.uk

But only available if you are outside of the UK.

Lalalallama · 11/05/2017 17:12

Phone your airport and thomson for yravel advice. You csn in some cases travel to spain on an out of date passport - just past expiry.

I know someone who has done this. Not sure of the ifs and buts but was with them on check in when they realised it had expired a few days before.
Call the airport and sdk yo speak to the thomson check in staff. At this stage you hsve nothing to lose by trying.

Empireoftheclouds · 11/05/2017 17:15

They can't go with a passport which is not valid for the duration of stay.

Naturebabe · 11/05/2017 17:19

Fuck, fuck, fuck, it's a one week holiday so no point using fast track and flying out one week later - the holiday would be over.
£1,400 down the drain. I really needed this holiday. I'm as low and desperate as this gets. I've been through a terrible time lately. This is the final straw :(

OP posts:
Naturebabe · 11/05/2017 17:20

I can't punish ds 5 and leave him behind because of my fucking mistake!
