Holiday - posting for traffic!

Naturebabe · 11/05/2017 13:53

Does anyone want to but a last minute holiday from me?
Posting here for traffic. I have messed up and didn't realise that ds 5's passport runs out next week. 1 week to renew.

Holiday is with Thomspon. Family life hotel.
Leaving 15th May for 1 week. 2 adults and 2 children.
Location is perfect for children - Majorca Coma Gran

www.thomson.co.uk/destinations/europe/spain/majorca/sa-coma/apartments/tui-family-life-coma-gran.html

I bought for £1,400, but would sell for £1,000

Or can anyone think what else I can do?

You need 6 months left on your passport to travel with it I'm afraid.

Naturebabe · 11/05/2017 17:22

No not 6 months, just to cover the duration of stay. Guidelines according to passport office and foreign office.

Op
You won't be able to transfer your holiday I'm afraid. Absolutely no chance whatsoever

SumThucker · 11/05/2017 17:24

You need 6 months left on your passport to travel with it I'm afraid.

Not for Europe, mine expired a month after I got back from holiday, it was mentioned in the airport as a "make sure you get a new one", nothing to do with not being able to fly.

How shit for you OP Sad

passthecremeeggs · 11/05/2017 17:31

I got a new child passport and another child's renewal done a few weeks ago. Not on fast track service. They said it could be six weeks but both were back within five days. Get the application done now on the 1 week service and get a cheap flight for you and DS if it's not back in time? You have to try - don't give up so early!

Empireoftheclouds · 11/05/2017 17:37

You need 6 months left on your passport to travel with it I'm afraid. no, just the duration of the holiday for Spain

Yukbuck · 11/05/2017 19:15

Op why are you admitting defeat?! Seriously just fill out all the forms NOW and get to a passport office. My passport took about 6 days to come back and I didn't even fast track it. If you're going to lose the 1400 anyway then what have you got to lose?! Just sort him out a passport and do the fast track and hopefully it will be back.

VerySadInside · 11/05/2017 19:46

Cant DS have a special holiday with grandparents or Auntie? At 5 that might feel just as special as a holiday. I don't think it will be seen as a punishment nor traumatise him.

JaneEyre70 · 11/05/2017 19:53

DD had to get her first passport , and it was all done in 5 days! At least attempt it.

happypoobum · 11/05/2017 19:55

Agree with PP you need to post it tomorrow (if you didn't do it today) and it may well come back in time. If it is a few days after DH leaves with other DC then you just fly straight out as soon as you get it.

You do seem very defeatist about it all. Passport may well come back before you fly.

scootinFun · 11/05/2017 19:57

It doesn't sound like you're interested in sorting passport - and why isn't your DH doing his bit if you're stuck in a conference....

ThePinkOcelot · 11/05/2017 19:58

Don't admit defeat OP! Try! Good luck x

Ecureuil · 11/05/2017 20:03

VerySadInside maybe she hasn't got anyone to leave him with? I certainly wouldn't have, parents and IL's work full time.
OP we renewed on the one week service and had it in 3 days. You may as well try that rather than write it off surely?

hooliodancer · 11/05/2017 20:05

Just try! Fill it in, pay for fast track, take it in person and collect in person when it's ready. If you go in and talk to them they will tell you how likely it is you can get it back soon.

Selena88 · 11/05/2017 20:12

Fast track is definitely worth trying. I did this and got the passport back within four days.

packofshunts · 11/05/2017 20:16

Do fasttack! I was in exactly the same position as you last month and hadn't realised they'd stopped issuing same day passports for kids.

Did fastrack anyway, (drive to Peterboroiugh) and the new passport arrived next day! Got to be worth a shot

Hulababy · 11/05/2017 20:22

To be fair to the OP I wouldn't be prepared to leave my child at home whilst the rest of us went abroad in holiday. I don't really know anyone in real life who would go that route either.

I guess I'd just get one ordered today as fast track and have my fingers crossed.

SoulAccount · 11/05/2017 20:26

It says Fast Track is available for children's renewal, people are saying they come back within 4 days, what's to be lost by trying?

MummaGiles · 11/05/2017 20:29

I agree you should just send off the application asap on the fastest service available and see if it makes it in time. It can be pretty quick and they will text you updates.

How have you realised this in the course of a work conference though?

SoulAccount · 11/05/2017 20:29

Do what hooliodancer said!!
It will work!

SoulAccount · 11/05/2017 20:35

The problem is tomorrow is Friday and if you are leaving in the 15th it will have to be picked up Monday, unless you are travelling late on Wednesday?

But if you can take the passport to an office tomorrow ( get there at dawn and queue?) and pick up from the same office at the end of Monday? Or even Tuesday morning....

CoolioAndTheGang · 11/05/2017 20:36

I presume you would have to send the old passport with the documents for renewal? You could chance flying and find an embassy in Spain to get emergency documents to get home. I think that is what people who get their passports stolen abroad do but it is expensive. You could try sending a twitter to the passport office and see if they give a solution.

Empireoftheclouds · 11/05/2017 20:40

You could chance flying and find an embassy in Spain to get emergency documents to get home.. They will NOT be allowed to fly with a passport which expires before they return.

Motherbear26 · 11/05/2017 20:42

Get an appointment at the nearest passport office for tomorrow. Take sad looking DC. Explain the situation and beg and plead them to rush the passport through asap. They are not ogres, if they can help I'm sure they will, if they can't then it's unfortunate but at least you know you've given it your best shot. I certainly wouldn't give up without going and asking though.

Unhomme · 11/05/2017 20:58

You'll be fine. Seriously. Fine. But take a birth certificate with you.

You're travelling in Europe and you only have to prove you're a UK citizen to travel within the EU. Yes it's out of date from next week but you'll be fine to travel out and they'll pick up the date on the way back. Border control will tell you off but let you in.
