To continue to boycott Eurovision

It is something from a different age, when technology was in its infancy and when the war was a very recent memory.

Now it is something that just allows petty nationalism and/or hatred of some countries to have an outlet. Even before Brexit we never came close to winning, yet music from British artists sells by the bucket load across many parts of the continent. Just go into a record shop in France or Germany, for example.

Our licence fee can be better spent (or reduced), and if there are still is a demand for it, then one of the commercial channels can broadcast it.

AIBU therefore to continue to boycott it?

The UK song this year is ok!
I think the Italian with the gorilla will win...seems to have the most watches on YouTube

Whisky2014, Italy have a bad place though- Portugal have the current 'best odds' of winning. We've put a quid in Belarus to finish top 4, as someone has to get all the 'Russian block' votes...

Ha! We have Prosecco, nibbles and....score cards. Yeah we're saddos but it's such a laugh. They hated us before Brexit....can't wait for the big fat Raspberry we get tonight.GrinGrin

And we've got Doctor Who as well.Tardis

My evening is sorted.

"Boycotting" means doing without something you would like for reasons of principle. I grew up in a household where if Outspan was the only citrus fruit in the shops we did without.

Not choosing to watch something because you don't like it is not really a "boycott", is it?

Radishal · 13/05/2017 17:42

I don't watch it because it's boring. Dd is at her grandparents to watch it. Does that count as a boycott?

*How can people say the UK never has a decent song?! What about Skooch? Skoosh? The ones who had the innuendo-ridden one about "flying the flag" with the budget airline props?

The was officially the business: a proper Eurovision piss take, and they were totally robbed*

Code42 Couldn't agree more. I loved that song.

I enjoy it and always hope a few of the crazy acts will have made it through the semis.

We get ourselves in the mood by cooking a meal (vaguely) in the cuisine of the host country. Also we do Eurovision bingo where you list all the cliches you can think of beforehand then tick them off as they come up.

Really don't care where our entry ends up TBH. Assume we will be last with nil point this year. Heigh-ho
