Half a stone in 4 weeks?

missb00 · 08/05/2017 08:23

Can I ask for your tips on how to achieve this please?! I'm going away in 3 weeks and 6 days and am sitting about a stone over where I'd like to be, however shifting 7lb would make me feel much more comfortable. I'm 5'5 and currently 11st 4lb, so not unachievable!

P.s. I know crash dieting is bad and i'll put it all back on again when I get back, but lets ignore that for a moment.

My college tutor described fibre as the antedote to sugar? Apparently when you make smoothies you're breaking down the fibres structure so it doesn't quite work the same way as it would if you were eating the whole fruit/greens. She explained it way better but it did make me stop the smoothies and eat the fruit instead.

I second the blood sugar diet. There's some inspiring threads on here about it. I only started it on Thursday, and have cheated a tiny bit (had two cans of cider, a few of dd's chips and one chocolate biscuit). Still lost 4lbs already. The food is really delicious too and I haven't felt hungry at all.

missb00 · 08/05/2017 12:26

Does the blood sugar diet encourage fasting? I tried 5:2 before and though I was 100% going to die

I do consume the entire mixture though
That means that you will be getting all of the fruit so that is good.

MyheartbelongstoG · 08/05/2017 15:45

I did lipotrim before, amazing stuff.

Two stone gone in a month.

ButtonBoo · 08/05/2017 15:49

Blood sugar diet fan here. I lost 12lbs in week one. Then 2-3 every week after. I'm now maintaining with similar choices but only being strict on 4 days of the week. Its kind of like a fast I guess, insomuch that the calories are low but its full fat and good proteins. Essentially no sugar and very low carb. Definitely no pasta, rice, potatoes, bread etc. I honestly wasn't hungry. And I did MFP on 1200 calories and was starving all day.

haveacupoftea · 08/05/2017 15:54

Why are you intentionally crash dieting to lose weight when you can easily lose 7lb or more in a month on a sensible diet like Slimming World or My Fitness Pal that isn't horrific to stick to? You're just making life difficult for yourself Confused

HomityBabbityPie · 08/05/2017 15:57

5:2 is bloody brilliant, I've been doing it for months now and lost a shit tonne of weight without really trying. Honestly I was starving on the fast days for the first couple of weeks but after that they were fine, and my appetite in general is way smaller.

I'm a total convert. Much prefer it to low carb as well as I hate restricting certain food groups and it got very dull eating that way.

malovitt · 08/05/2017 16:05

I lost a stone in a month at Slimming World - stuck to it religiously though.
I've also lost weight by doing the Jason Vale 7lb in 7 days - I lost 8lbs and my friend lost 11lb in a week doing the same plan.
I do Jason Vale's 5:2 juices now as I find easier that eating 500 calories worth of food and I'm at my ideal weight now. Do plenty of exercise and I can more or less eat what I want on my 5 days.

MissBax · 08/05/2017 17:30

Malovitt - how do you choose which days you do the 2 on? Do you do the same each week? X

Daydream007 · 08/05/2017 17:36

Keep it simple and just cut right down on carbs and increase your protein. Halve your portions and cut down on sugar. Cut out junk between meals and move a little more. It works for me without starving myself!

itchi · 08/05/2017 18:46

In my experience, it's very possible to lose 7lb or possibly more in 4 weeks eating low carb/high fat. The more weight you have to lose the easier it is to come off.

Theworldisfullofidiots · 08/05/2017 18:47

I joined ww and lost 6lbs in first two weeks. Should loose 2lbs this week.

Annebronte · 08/05/2017 18:57

Definitely do the 30 day shred: 10 days on each level. It makes a huge difference. I always do it before I go on holiday. You can get it on YouTube.

malovitt · 08/05/2017 18:57

MissBax
I do Monday and Wednesday usually but if I have an evening out planned or an event I'll change the days around. Sometimes it means two consecutive days which is doable but I prefer to space them out a bit.
It is also important to have all your juices/500cals within an 8 hour window so you have nothing for 16 hours in the 24. It won't work as well (or at all) if you eat late on the day before your fast day then early the following day IYSWIM

MissBax · 08/05/2017 19:56

Malovitt ahh ok yeah that makes sense :) thank you! X

Another vote for the blood sugar diet. I lost 11 pounds in six weeks and honestly am not hungry on it. I did put half a stone on when I went on holiday but when I restarted the diet I lost the lot in less than a week. It takes a little bit of planning and MyFitnessPal to track but best diet I've ever been on. Don't miss refined carbs at all and don't plan to reintroduce them.

Missb00 · 09/05/2017 11:00

Thanks all. Weighed this morning and am 3lb down already and didnt exactly starve myself yesterday. Whats everyones opinions on Juice Plus and the like (not as a long term solution)

If you have lost 3lb in one day then it is likely that it is only water loss not actually 3lb of fat

toffeeboffin · 09/05/2017 13:23

Have you started OP? How's it going?

cherrytree63 · 09/05/2017 15:00

The reason why smoothies are not as healthy as the equivalent amount of fruit id that the sugars are more accessible so creating a sugar rush/insulin spike.
Eating the whole fruit takes your body longer to break down the fibre and the sugars are released much slower.

I lost 3 stone by quitting refined sugar, junk food and processed/ready meals.
I used Paul McKennas 2 rules, eat only when hungry, stop when full.
There was so much good advice on MN and links to researched advice when I was starting out.
I've kept it off for 2 years.

However I've (long story why) recently put on half a stone but for the last week I'm getting back on track and lost 4lbs already.
Banana first thing (not particularly hungry but I have GERD and it stops acid splash.
About 1pm a huge bowl of fruit with some nuts and seeds, and a massive dollop of full fat Greek yoghurt.
Around 6pm eggs and salad or salmon and veg.
Snack on more fruit and sometimes cheese.
Drink plenty of water.
Exercise is power walking or jogging every day plus 10 mins HIIT using hand weights 3 times a week.
When I'm just maintaining I do eat more but rarely eat bread or drink alcohol.
Different ways suit different people, when I see weight fall off quickly it is a good incentive to spur me on, and eating what I've outlined above stops me getting really hungry.

When I tried to follow diets in the past I'd feel ravenous all the time and really devastated when the scales weren't moving!

ragz134 · 09/05/2017 15:42

Blood sugar diet is great for rapid weight loss. Severe calorie restriction is fine if you are overweight and doing it short term.
Low carb high fat is excellent for long term and you won't feel hungry.
Slimming world/WW are fine if you cook and eat real food and don't go crazy with the carbs.
Juice plus and shakes are not good for anyone, but they will work, just not easy to stick to and not a long term solution.

HomityBabbityPie · 09/05/2017 16:25

I also think 5:2 is a great long term option
