I have a question.

OP posts:
snowleopard · 14/03/2007 12:13

Oh Anna really you must be taking the piss. What if your partner or daughter had an accident and ended up with a big scar on their face? Would you love them less or be less happy with your lot? I blimmin well hope not.

NotQuiteCockney · 14/03/2007 12:13

Anna, I'd describe your arguments as meaningless and asinine.

But I make no value judgements!

AitchYouBerk · 14/03/2007 12:14

who were you apologising to, anna? (love an 'if' apology, btw, absolute bolleaux. you'll know what that means, of course).

zippitippitoes · 14/03/2007 12:15

I don't think bland, standardised and unimaginative can ever be beautiful

fryalot · 14/03/2007 12:18

Sorry, haven't time to read the whole thread, but can someone explain to me what being ugly has got to do with anything at all? I'm confused now. (not thick - confused, there is a difference)

snowleopard · 14/03/2007 12:18

"haven't time to read the whole thread"

... there's your problem squonk.

Bink · 14/03/2007 12:19
snowleopard · 14/03/2007 12:19

It's one of those threads...

fryalot · 14/03/2007 12:19

aah, will save it and have a look later on. Or should I not bother?

snowleopard · 14/03/2007 12:20

Oh that's a lovely word for it Bink - and so... cultured.

I like it because it makes a thread that does this sound better than other threads - rather than making the meandering sound like a bad thing.

snowleopard · 14/03/2007 12:21

Ooh yes bother, it's hilarious.

MrsBadger · 14/03/2007 12:23

Oh yes, fugue, with a subject and counter-subject and development of the themes and canonical entries. Very good!

Ellbell · 14/03/2007 13:01

Love 'fugue' Bink. Well done!

shylock · 14/03/2007 14:02

lol at Bink and Ellbell's little riff!

OP posts:
JanH · 14/03/2007 14:06

For future pedantry française purposes, Ellbell:

&CCedil; = alt key + 0199
ç = alt key + 0231

JanH · 14/03/2007 14:08

oh bum, it went wrong! It worked before I posted. Anyway cap C+cedilla should appear with alt+0199...

Ellbell · 14/03/2007 14:14

Thanks Jan. I did have these all written down somewhere (such is my level of sad pedantry), but I've lost them (pedantic aspirations quashed by the disorganised reality of my life).

KathyMCMLXXII · 14/03/2007 14:17

This is v useful for pedants.

ggglimpopo · 14/03/2007 14:29

Can I just go off on a tangent here?

I answered the mobile yesterday and mixed up the French 'Salut' which means hi, and the English 'hello' and treated my caller to a cheery "Salop" (pronounced salo).

There was a surprised silence. It was the bank manager, ringing to confirm my appointment.

Ha!

ggglimpopo · 14/03/2007 14:31

To appreciate this fully without googling - salop translates as 'bastard'!

snowleopard · 14/03/2007 14:32

Ah that helps ggg!
Nice to see you here

JanH · 14/03/2007 14:32

Hi, gggl

My source, Ellbell - now put it in a very safe place!

ggglimpopo · 14/03/2007 14:34

Did you get my email JanH?

JanH · 14/03/2007 14:34

(I thought it was rude but wasn't sure which rude!)(Why are salopettes called salopettes?)

Oh dear, I'm now chortling at the idea of answering the phone here with "bastard!"

ggglimpopo · 14/03/2007 14:34

And hello snowleopard.
