I don't want to live in a country that treats people as it does. I work damned hard to serve the public, but I am so disillusioned.

It's never been Great. It's certainly not now.

Jazzywazzydodah · 06/05/2017 21:57

Which country is better than here then? Genuinely I'd like to know as may move there myself ! Or is this just a general moan?

AfunaMbatata · 06/05/2017 21:57

It doesn't mean great as in good

FelixtheMouse · 06/05/2017 21:57

Great is a geographical expression nothing more. If you want to leave, then do so.

CrowyMcCrowFace · 06/05/2017 22:00

YANBU. I left in 2015. Watching from a distance, not impressed, unlikely ever to return.

CreamCheez · 06/05/2017 22:01

I love Great Britain. Lived in England in the 90s. Would I move there now? Probably not.

DonkeyOaty · 06/05/2017 22:02

Great as in large - a large island, largest of the British Isles. Don't be a silly billy about the "Great" bit.

What's upset you, you refer to serving the public; has your job been squeezed, or similar?

Bambambini · 06/05/2017 22:02

It's fab here, totally underrated - where you thinking of moving to?

SuperBeagle · 06/05/2017 22:03

Where do you think will be better?

(I'm not from the UK, nor do I live there, so I'm not asking that in a judgy way)

Longdistance · 06/05/2017 22:06

The grass is never greener.

ArtemisiaGentilleschi · 06/05/2017 22:06

Rwanda, Siria, North Korea, Putin's Russia, yup, "abroad" is deffo better than Britain. Hmm

user1493759849 · 06/05/2017 22:08

What's stopping you? If it's so awful here, no-one is making you stay. You are welcome to leave and see how much better it is in another country. Hmm

JumpingJellybeanz · 06/05/2017 22:09

YANBU

I always expected to move back one day. Now I don't even want to visit anymore.

TisapityshesaGeordie · 06/05/2017 22:10

I'd happily emigrate if DH was up for it -sadly he isn't. I'm terrified of the way this country's going.

Bambambini · 06/05/2017 22:11

Where else have you lived OP? Always helps if you can afford a nice lifestyle of course.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 06/05/2017 22:11

Yabu

Love love love it

IHaveBrilloHair · 06/05/2017 22:12

Where would you like to move to, and why?

RortyCrankle · 06/05/2017 22:12

So go.

DJBaggySmalls · 06/05/2017 22:16

Its not just the UK though, theres a shift to the right worldwide. I'll be buggered if I'm giving up this easily.

Lionking1981 · 06/05/2017 22:18

Our services are horribly overstretched and undercut. The housing situation is grim. But I still think we are very, very lucky people in this country.

DavidPuddy · 06/05/2017 22:18

I live in Germany. This country has it right in so, so many ways. I will not move back to the UK.

Whatawaytomakealiving · 06/05/2017 22:20

I work in education; the whole system, the disregard for children and a sense of the corrupt and selfish egomaniacs is hugely concerning.

I feel there is lack of common sense and understanding in general, everyday life.

My parents think of Britain as a large and dominant force; something proud and respected. I don't. This isn't a thread about Brexit, but without Europe I feel we are tiny and rather stupid.

Other countries I would choose, I don't know? In education terms New Zealand and some Scandinian countries are well respected for understanding children's needs and basing their education system on children. ( hey! what a simple idea that is, ask the professionals and create a system based on their expertise, groundbreaking!).

I didn't like the time I spent in Spain, but love the culture in the Netherlands. Liberal, common sense, less pressure. Simple things like their bike culture, linked to great public transport. A sense of responsibility for yourself rather than a nanny state.

I have always loved my country, a real home bird. My parents lived abroad and I would defend my country to the hilt.

Not now.

I would also emigrate but husband has never wanted to. I always fancied Australia. With husband's current job canada is a possibility, but as we approach 40 it is less and less likely. Id like to retire to a scotrish island i think.

FrenchLavender · 06/05/2017 22:22

I don't want to live in a country that treats people as it does.

The U.K. may not be perfect but when you can come up with a list of other countries where you have greater rights and can expect better fairer treatment regardless of who you are, where your from or how much money or influence you have, then I'd like to see that list.

But please do go, feel free. It's a big world, get out there and enjoy it.
