I don't want to live in a country that treats people as it does. I work damned hard to serve the public, but I am so disillusioned.

OP posts:

YANBU. I left in 2015. Watching from a distance, not impressed, unlikely ever to return.
Agreed, although for me left in 2009.

Not true, the country I now live in in a million time better.

I always expected to move back one day. Now I don't even want to visit anymore.
Yep, me too

frogsgoladidahdidah · 06/05/2017 23:23

I left over a decade ago. Never looked back.

Orlantina · 06/05/2017 23:24

I wonder if the people who are telling the OP to leave would really like to live in a country full of people like them - "people who have told the OP to leave type of people".

BookShopFrog · 06/05/2017 23:25

The grass is never greener.

Bookshopfrog - Really-, Where, pray tell?

frogsgoladidahdidah · 06/05/2017 23:28

Me too bookshop frog.

I am in 🇨🇭

BookShopFrog · 06/05/2017 23:31

Netherlands, France, Spain. All better than UK, have settled now in one of them.

Seriously, the UK is not the 'OMG, it's wonderful' it may have been years ago.

Bambambini · 06/05/2017 23:31

Would that be Switzerland with the really dodgy WW2 record? Probably helps having sll that jewish money floating around to make it such a cultured upmarket lifestyle.

annandale · 06/05/2017 23:31

Don't blame you op, and the 'go on then' responses rather prove your point.

I have always lived in the UK, love it, am even proud of quite a lot of things about it. No plans to go anywhere. I love the freedom that the climate gives me - temperate, benign. I am very deeply rooted. I don't think it's unreasonable to feel differently and very tired of many aspects of life here, which are likely to increase their influence.

I suppose the question would be, can you make a better life for yourself here? You are clearly a contributor, but perhaps you need a break from some of the harder parts of your life, rather than uprooting yourself?

Not sure where Jeremy Corbyn comes into it though.

BookShopFrog · 06/05/2017 23:33

frog have ex-uk friends there too. who also have the same views.

annandale · 06/05/2017 23:33

Bambambini, well the glories of the UK were built on slavery and child labour, care to cast the first stone?

Bambambini · 06/05/2017 23:33

Spain? I could live there happily for a few years at least but seems their unemployed young are all in the UK as the economy is so crap there.

Melassa · 06/05/2017 23:33

Some sensitive souls here Hmm

OP, try it out, at the worst you'll have broadened your horizons, possibly learnt another language and experienced another culture even if you do decide to return. If you do like it and end up staying then all the better. The concept of better or worse amongst first world countries is very subjective.

I moved away in the 90s, having planned only to stay a couple of years like I'd done in another country, but ended up staying. I just found I fit right in with the lifestyle, despite it being a less economically florid place compared to the UK. Best thing I ever did. I don't ever see myself moving back either, particularly in the current climate.

whenever I go abroad I love it for a week or so and then start to get homesick and long for the UK. and my gorgeous cat!

Hmm

Not really sure how to respond to such a stupid comment?

Bambambini · 06/05/2017 23:37

"Bambambini, well the glories of the UK were built on slavery and child labour, care to cast the first stone?"

But I'm not the one claiming how superior everywhere else is. At least you'll be ok if there is another war.

Beebeeeight · 06/05/2017 23:40

I'd much rather live in Scotland than England.

The health/life expectancy stats are more about class/income than country!

BookShopFrog · 06/05/2017 23:41

It's funny, people bang on about how the NHS is so great. My GP here (total state, not private) apologised because there was a 2 day wait for MRI and 2 week wait to see a consultant. Friends, same illness, in UK, waiting over a year for initial appointment.
I'd say the system I'm in now is better.

Sleepdeprivedredhead · 06/05/2017 23:43

So those who enjoy the UK try to express their warmth and community by telling the OP to up sticks and sod off. Yes. It's a welcoming place Confused

Bambambini · 06/05/2017 23:43

"I'd much rather live in Scotland than England.

Still says something about the overall mindset. I choose south of england over Scotland. The weather difference is significant enough.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 06/05/2017 23:43

Bookshop
The economy in Spain makes Britain look like it's rolling in it. We have Spanish friends who are lucky if the get paid at the end of the month. My DH is North African and his family members who live in France have a very different view of French society. Like most countries it depends who you are, how well off you are and if you fit in.

BookShopFrog · 06/05/2017 23:43

Bambambini, if you have decent career you're fine.

user1490465531 · 06/05/2017 23:44

The NHS is failing a lot of people here at the moment.....I do believe healthcare here is pretty low rate.

LostSight · 06/05/2017 23:45

Until you've lived in another country you won't appreciate what you have in the UK. So go! You'll soon come back with your tail between your legs.

Wish it was as easy as that. I currently live and work in Norway. I love Scotland, where I grew up. I love the people and the friendliness.

But I wouldn't move back. We have a great work/life balance. We get time off work if family members are sick or need help. We've lost loads of weight. We can get doctors' appointments, MRI scans and operations without huge waiting lists.

The schooling is awful though. Wouldn't recommend it to the OP. Though the International Schools are good (and teach in English).

I read the British papers and am horrified. I visit my family and see homeless drug addicts everywhere. For the first time last year, after the Brexit vote, I felt ashamed to be British.

I still want to return to the UK, but it's hard to justify when I currently live in a country where there is much greater equality. We pay a lot of tax and I am happy to do so as it means nobody has to live on the streets.

Britain used to be more like Norway. It's been moving right for the last thirty seven years. It's not an improvement.

Well don't and just indulge in the rich (jewish bought) lifestyle.
