To not go back and pay for this?

Feeling a bit crap today. Went to the supermarket. Put my rucksack in the trolley and did my shopping. Went through self scan.
Got back to the car and noticed an item had rolled under my rucksack and I hadn't paid for it. It cost about £2.50.
Should I go back and pay for it (tomorrow) or just keep it and feel a bit guilty.
Walking from the car to shop and back to the car again would have pushed me over the edge because of being ill.
WWYD?

For £2.50 I really wouldn't bother, lots of supermarkets overprice things anyway. I have my shopping delivered and the amount of times the delivery driver refunds me for something just because it's slightly squashed or only has a couple of days on the best before. They must be refunding customers all day and obviously aren't missing it. As pp have said, donate to a more worthy cause.

I don't think Tesco (or whichever Supermarket it was) are going to lose sleep over £2.50. It's not a material amount to their profit margin!

I'm an honest person, but this was a genuine mistake and, like the poster above, I'd think 'Ooops' and not worry too much about it.

HollyAndIvyTime · 06/05/2017 17:33

NB: if it was a little corner shop or similar, then I'd probably go back and pay though!

elevenclips · 06/05/2017 17:34

Just forget about it OP. It was a genuine accident, the value is tiny for a supermarket. Nobody in the supermarket will care. Think no more of it. Just think of it like if someone in the supermarket knocked something off the shelf and it smashed and so was wasted.

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 06/05/2017 17:39

Well. I genuinely wouldn't have given it a second thought. No i wouldn't go back and pay for it.

I would take it back in to the customer service desk next time I went in. IME staff are grateful and friendly and won't make you feel embarrassed.

Happyhippy45 · 06/05/2017 17:47

Shock how did you know it was Tesco? Shock

Tesco car parks are the most soul destroying in my experience, so I just assumed while reading that it was Tesco Grin

bebox · 06/05/2017 17:59

Tesco have done me out of £2.65. today. I've paid for your item OP, stop feeling bad.

Screwinthetuna · 06/05/2017 18:00

Na, the supermarket owners are rolling in £££££ and won't miss your £2.50. Forget about it

Armadillostoes · 06/05/2017 18:02

I wouldn't feel bad OP-it was a genuine mistake. Just pop some money in a charity box next time you pass one if it is really bothering you.. But everyone makes mistakes.

Happyhippy45 · 06/05/2017 18:06

bebox should I post the money to you? Grin

Andrewofgg · 06/05/2017 18:13

I did something similar a year or two ago. I put a bit more than the amount concerned in a charity box and was satisfied.

bebox · 06/05/2017 18:14

OP, nah, you're alright. The Co-op owe me £3, if you're near one of them, be my guest. Grin

butterfly198615 · 06/05/2017 18:39

Don't worry about it.
I have done this by accident and just thought "oh well" . How many times have people been over charged and not noticed till to late. More times than accidently not paying.

AnnieAnoniMouse · 07/05/2017 13:58

Was it Tesco at the Meadows?

I avoid it, you feel like you've done a marathon before you get to the entrance. Hate the layout of the carpark & entrance.

Really dislike the way Worra is coming across here - back in your box Easter Smile

Relax OP, it happens. You had/have no intent to permanently defraud the store. It's happened to me on occasion, usually by the time I get to my car and unload everything and return the trolley, no, last thing I want to do is trudge back to store and queue up at the register again, I wouldn't go back even if I were in perfect health never mind if I'm feeling a bit or a lot shit. I wouldn't call them or make a special trip back either, I'd just tell them and pay the next time I'm in the store.

Judydreamsofhorses · 07/05/2017 15:25

I was in Boots the other day and a lady produced an item which her DD had pulled off the shelf and kept in her buggy - she hadn't realised until she got home and then returned it next time she was in. The cashier said it happens all the time, and was grateful to the woman for returning it. Personally I'd stick a couple of pounds in a charity box next time I was out, OP.

Armadillostoes · 07/05/2017 15:27

I think that ScaredStudent had every right to point out that a previous post had in effect been unkind and unhelpful. It is relevant feedback for the OP.

Kwoggers · 07/05/2017 15:28

Tweet them. Absolves you of guilty feelings and when they thank you and tell you not to bother doing anything about it, you can relax.

user1489179512 · 07/05/2017 15:30

You pay for it - otherwise it is theft. You should have paid for it so as soon as you realised. No excuses.
