To think sauce jugs on the plate are disgusting

Watching Masterchef tonight and maybe it's just me but does anyone else thing it is disgustingly dirty to place the small sauce/gravy jug on the plate with the food when it's been standing on the work surface in the kitchen?

It makes me gag at the the thought of it. Nobody, even the critics, seem to mind at all.

Another Confused here but we've all got our quirks I suppose.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 06/05/2017 12:35

Yes I probably do. I still don't see why I should care. Fortunately my friends aren't uptight either.

I'm not uptight, far from it. You can't start name calling just because you don't like your poor hygiene standards being pointed out.

user1493022461 · 06/05/2017 12:42

You're bonkers, OP.

I actually am not in the least bit bothered about my poor hygiene standards- they suit me. Why you think you have a need or right to call them out says a lot about you.

As for "uptight"- what word would you use to describe someone who is so paranoid they can't bring themselves to eat in friends' houses if they have pets?

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 06/05/2017 13:06

He also made off with a packet of naice sausages, and was quietly munching one. We had a few drinks, forgot sausage had been partly eaten, and that went onto the BBQ too. Nobody got ill or died

I assume Little M is a cat? One of mine once made off with a frozen pheasant which had been left out to thaw overnight. He didn't get through the clingfilm and it was still too frozen. It went in the oven. No ill effects.

topcat2014 · 06/05/2017 13:34

Apparently the food at the end it cold when Greg / John taste it, as it has been sat around being photo'd for so long.

Now - the thought of eating cold food did make me fee a bit bleugh, tbh.

Presentation - not so much

Half think I'm bonkers and the other half think I'm right!

I would like to point out that some of those cooks on Masterchef work in the most disorganised and dirty way and I don't believe for one minute that the production team insist they keep things meticulously clean.

NavyandWhite It's really bad when it's a steak and all the blood has ran out of it because it hasn't been allowed to rest and the jug is sitting in the middle of the blood. Gross.

Nothing like half agree with you, OP. More like 5%.

The human race would have died out a long time ago if our digestive and immune systems couldn't cope with a little bit of dirt and mess.

Sparklingbrook · 06/05/2017 16:03

I think we need a recount. Grin

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 06/05/2017 17:23

LassWiTheDelicateAir It's not paranoia, and I could if wanted, I just choose not to. Thankfully I only have one friend with a pet.

With your hygiene standards, you'd probably be happy to go to a restaurant kitchen infiltrated with maggots. After all, they're just another animal. No different to a cat.

Why do we bother having hygiene standards in restaurants at all, I wonder?

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 06/05/2017 19:40

Maggots are just like cats- what utter nonsense. Ridiculous hyperbole.

"You could if you wanted to but just chose not to" - seriously has the fact millions of households have pets escaped your notice?

If you don't go near households who have pets on what are you basing your sweeping generalisations ? I admit I could not bear to live with the mortal terror displayed by the minority of posters on here but how do you know about anyone else given you only have 1 friend who has a pet?

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 06/05/2017 19:48

Because I have known people in the past and also you see it regularly, people with pets discussing their lax standards.

Of course, it makes sense, if you live with an animal you love it and don't think of it as dirty, but that's not much good for the rest of us who don't love it and don't want to eat where the cat has sat on the plates/surfaces/eaten the food already.

Sparklingbrook · 06/05/2017 19:49

Cats and maggots are the same thing? Shock

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 06/05/2017 19:52

I was being dramatic to demonstrate a point Wink

Sparklingbrook · 06/05/2017 19:53

Oh drama. Wink Confused

Well my cat is lying right next to me and looks particularly cat like TBF.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 06/05/2017 19:54

That's reassuring to know Grin

bunnylove99 · 06/05/2017 20:01

OP if you are as concerned as you seem about such things you would be much better avoiding restaurants completely to be honest. I've worked in several and hygiene in many is gruesome. Frequent offences include chefs not washing their hands when they shold, eg after smoking cigarettes, eating. Food that should be refrigerated being left out in the heat for hours as it's in huge quantities and nowhere to store it. Grubby clothes being used to wipe down restaurant tables over and overy again... this is tip of the iceberg!

ShatnersBassoon · 06/05/2017 20:05

The jug will be as clean as the plate, which will be as clean as the cutlery, pans and utensils. The surfaces will probably be cleaner than all of those things because they will be disinfected regularly. They don't have any cats or bags on the set of Masterchef.

You'd never eat out anywhere if these thoughts of contamination were running through your head. You wouldn't even eat your free biscuit in M&S café because it had been near the bottom of the cup which had been on the counter. These things aren't valid worries to me.

Oysterbabe · 06/05/2017 20:10

I could not give less of a shit about this kind of thing. It might be because I grew up in a house full to the brim of pets and a family with incredibly low hygiene standards. I don't think I've ever eaten a meal there without finding an animal hair in it. I think it's made me robust Grin

Sahara123 · 06/05/2017 20:17

Oh FFS. it's a wonder any of us are still alive....

ForalltheSaints · 06/05/2017 20:18

Not unusual in places I've eaten in recently. No issue for me.
