To think sometimes our cats eat better than us and WIBU to just have a taste of tonight's? (Lighthearted)

Which tonight is chicken with mango. I kid you not. When we got one cat years ago as a kitten she was already used to some posh stuff which looks and smells like real food. It's s brand you can by in Sainsbury's. The other one immediately started to refuse the Whiskas previously on offer and now they both have it . This looks like shredded chicken breast with little chunks of mango and smells like it too.
I have often been tempted to just taste a bit and tonight is the closest I have come to doing so. WWYD?

Try it
pet food is fit for human consumption. Just don't eat too much!

Vinorosso74 · 05/05/2017 21:49

Haha, if you want to go for it. It won't kill you but might not be as nice as you expect. I'm a vegetarian so wouldn't sample cat food myself.....

PlacidPenelope · 05/05/2017 21:53

Ours has an expensive food that is fish flakes with whole prawns in itShock.

2beesornot2beesthatisthehoney · 05/05/2017 21:55

And have you ever tried it Penelope, - ours have that one too as well.

No I haven't, 2bees, the cat would plot my slow, painful demise if I didGrin. Is the chicken with mango the same brand and did they like it?

I know someone who worked for a pet food company and they did taste the food!

Asmoto · 06/05/2017 01:44

I realised I'd probably gone too far with a diet once when I found myself feeling hungry upon opening a tin of Whiskas 'duck and heart' cat food Envy < not envy.

2beesornot2beesthatisthehoney · 06/05/2017 09:07

I can report that the chicken and mango that I put out was eaten up very quickly, so must taste good. Clean plates all round except mine - still haven't summed up the courage to taste it yet despite all the posts encouraging me to although it seems it would probably be safe to.

I would never never feel inclined to eat Whiskas which looks and smells foul! That diet must have been pretty intense Asmoto

I know this is my very old thread but this is an update!
It has taken me nearly 4 years to sum up the courage / be mad enough but I tried a tiny bit of the cat food yesterday and suffered no ill effects !

Chicken and ham . Tasted like bland tinned chicken and ham . Can’t say it was particularly tasty but I don’t suppose dCat likes salt and pepper. Won’t be trying it again . The cat might give me the evil eye.

DH thinks I have gone completely mad

We used to feed our dog Winalot Prime.I swear it smelled good enough to stick a pastry lid on!

Sloelydoesit · 26/02/2021 14:08

My son always says: "Mmmm, that smells good" when I open a tin of cat food!

ComtesseDeSpair · 26/02/2021 14:46

I admit to having tried high quality wet cat food, on the basis that I’ve eaten some dreadful things in my time and reasoned it couldn’t have been any worse. It was bland, as you’d expect of something with no salt or seasoning and relatively low fat, but otherwise a bit like eating the meaty element of a ready meal.

Our cats, when alive, had two extremes: they’d eat fresh meat and offal from the butcher; or they’d eat the absolute trash supermarket own brand wet food tins. They generally turned their noses up at any good quality cat food.

I can't believe it took you 4 years😂 Most pet food, if not all, is safe for human consumption. 😁
LadyHedgehog · 26/02/2021 14:54

Because dog and cat food is usually placed on the floor it has very stringent safety standards in the EU and UK, meaning it has to to be fit for consumption by a small child, as the risk of toddlers eating it is apparently relatively high. Give it a go!

GrolliffetheDragon · 26/02/2021 15:27

What is the food? If it's the Applaws, that looks like tinned human food rather than cat food. Our cats get half good stuff and half Whiskas.

2beesornot2beesthatisthehoney · 26/02/2021 16:19

Yes it was Applaws which does look like , and is , real meat or with real rice or veg added.
So @SchrodingersImmigrant I challenge you to try some ( in the next 4 years....) 🤣🤣

My cat only like felix and Sainsbury’s or Tesco’s fish in jelly and not the fish flakes

My vet told me I just change his diet as what he is eating is the equivalent to KFC and McDonalds so I bought some really expensive food which he turned his nose up at

He is 17 and if he wants to eat fast food then so be it

I have just bought him a special bed that cost £35 Grin it’s like a little fluffy tent

You don't have to😂 since my childhood I played fair with my pets😂 They got a taste of mine, I got taste of theirs. I tasted so many I should be paid by the companies as a tester.
