To think that some people live in too big houses?

Lots of people live in (in my opinion) already big houses yet they want to move into even bigger ones.
I see so many families where all the children have their own bedrooms, bathrooms, big bedroom for the parents, guest room, study, living room, and yet they never seem to be satisfied and want to move into a bigger house. They all want playroom for the children. What's the point, when they could easily play in their bedrooms or the living room? There are houses where everybody has their own level, plus bathrooms on the landings, more toilets than family members, and yet they want Buckingham palace. It's good to have enough space and not be in each other's pockets but am I the only one who thinks these people are greedy and unreasonable? You don't need to live in a mansion to be a happy family.
Not to mention those houses where entire rooms are never used, lots of space is taken up by massive stairs and there are parts of the house that are just walkways.
What's your take on it?

You sound jealous.

If people can afford these properties it's no business of anyone else's. How would others benefit if they all downsized?

Aeroflotgirl · 05/05/2017 11:45

Yabvvvvu and jealous, if you have the money, why not! Why should they shoehorn themselves into a tiny property if they can afford a large house.

ladyvimes · 05/05/2017 11:46

Housing a generally a safe investment. If you can afford it then buying as big a house as you can is financially sensible.
You could say the same about cars or clothing or food or holidays.
Each to their own. Not really anyone else's business.

troodiedoo · 05/05/2017 11:46

Lots of people are living in too small houses in very cramped conditions. That's a real concern.

kimann · 05/05/2017 11:47

Biscuit jealous much?

rustyrivets1 · 05/05/2017 11:47

what's it got to do with you how people live and choose to spend their money?

HateSummer · 05/05/2017 11:47

🤔 Hmmmmmm!

harderandharder2breathe · 05/05/2017 11:47

If the people who can afford mansions buy them, it leaves the normal family sized homes for people who can't afford mansions.

If people can afford it, who is it actually hurting?

still remembers the shock of 29 teenagers at the classmate who had 23 rooms in her house when everyone else had six or seven

WorraLiberty · 05/05/2017 11:47

How are they greedy and unreasonable, if they're spending their own money?

If they were expecting the government to subsidise it, then they'd be greedy and unreasonable.

ShelaghTurner · 05/05/2017 11:47

Goodness, if could afford it I'd have a huge house and feel no guilt about it. Why wouldn't you?

URSick · 05/05/2017 11:47

Just to clarify, I am not jealous of them at all. I just don't see the point of living in a property that's a waste of space. If I was jealous I would start a thread stating that I would love to live in a big house with lots of empty rooms and 7 toilets, so don't come with this jealousy thing because it is simply not relevant here.

Having a playroom is not an unreasonable request tbh.

I fucking love my playroom. I'm viewing houses at the moment and you would be horrified cos we want our new home to have a playroom too.

AND a second reception room to use as an office.

We are clearly losing the run of ourselves entirely. Hmm

SootSprite · 05/05/2017 11:47

Yeah, damn those people who choose to spend their money on a nice house Hmm

BlondeGinger · 05/05/2017 11:48

If they can afford it and that's what they want, why does it matter?

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 05/05/2017 11:48

Do you have children yourself?

I have 3. 4,3 and 1. I can't leave my one year old playing unsupervised in her bedroom. That would be negligent.

The 4and 3 year olds like playing together in their playroom. I don't want kids toys in our lounge

Should we all live in some kind of post-communist Russian state in identical flats? I don't think the residents were particularly happy

Bluntness100 · 05/05/2017 11:48

I also think uou sound jealous. Weird thread, why start it? If people can afford it they can have as much space as they desire. No one said you need space to be happy. Plenty of happy families in small houses. However that doesn't mean conversely you can't be happy with a big house and if you can afford it people should be able to live where they please.

WorraLiberty · 05/05/2017 11:49

Just to clarify, I am not jealous of them at all. I just don't see the point of living in a property that's a waste of space.

Do you need to be able to see the point?

Faez · 05/05/2017 11:49

So what's the issue?

Iamastonished · 05/05/2017 11:49

Sour grapes.

Perhaps they should move into a smaller, cheaper houses and therefore remove the availability of those houses to people who could afford them.

You haven't thought this through have you?

Have a Biscuit

DeanKoontz · 05/05/2017 11:50

When I was little I always wanted a massive house with lots of empty rooms. No idea why. Possibly it was inspired by the The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe.

I do have a house with slightly more rooms than people, but it's not a mansion. I love it and won't move now until they cart me off to a nursing home.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 05/05/2017 11:50

I think you may be a green eyed monster

Bluntness100 · 05/05/2017 11:50

It's only a waste of space in your view. But you're not living there so your view doesn't count. It's up to them how much space they want and need and how they do or do not use it. Why do you even care?

LilaTheLion · 05/05/2017 11:51

We've just bought a massive house. I keep getting lost and yesterday I stood in a corridor genuinely not sure which loo to use. It's not easy for us. Be kind.

NanooCov · 05/05/2017 11:51

Eh? I know nobody who has a house with levels dedicated to each family member, more toilets than family members or rooms that are never used. You must be mixing in very different circles or watching too much "Cribs" (if that's even still on). Biscuit
