WIBU to phone the hospital? AIBU to be worried?

I had a local anaesthetic into my hand for carpal tunnel release. It was done at 4 pm and I still have almost no feeling in my hand? Is this normal? I'm worried and thinking I may be overreacting. Will the ward think I'm BU if I phone for reassurance?

Can you phone at this time of night? Is there a direct line? You could try 111

NumbHanded · 03/05/2017 22:08

There is a direct line but I'm not sure if it's silly to disturb the busy staff at night.

When I had mine done it took almost 18 hours to wear off completely. I woke up middle of the night when mine wore off and had to go on a (one handed) painkiller search at 3am!! If you are worried, given the ward or 111 a call, but they will probably just say to give it time. Make sure you have water and painkillers by the bed if you need them in the night (I also had a pen and paper so I could make a note of what time I had them). Wishing you a speedy recovery! Smile

Was your hand numb before due to the carpal tunnel issues? Could it be that the old numbness hasn't gone yet as the area is still swollen?

Fruitcorner123 · 03/05/2017 22:24

Maybe give it a few hours more if it's a 24 hr line and see how it goes but i don't think I would worry too much about disturbing them. If there's nothing wrong it will take them two mins to reassure you it's normal and if it's not normal they will want to get it seen to.

Thanks for reassurance imaginary. As long as I know it will come back eventually, I'm good.

Chaz it was a bit numb before but not like this.

Dr Google told me the local wears off in 4-6 hours so I had this irrational worry that I'd never feel my fingers or thumb again. Blush
