I'm 26 and having my first one booked next week. I'm actually gutted about it as I've never needed a filling until now. My dp is 29 and has about 5. Also aibu to be so upset at needing one. Obviously I've lasted this long without needing any but I'm worried that my oral hygiene isn't good enough now!

I'm 51 and have no fillings. I had a couple in my milk teeth.

AdoraBell · 03/05/2017 12:08

Don't know exactly but I was in primary school.

Oldraver · 03/05/2017 12:11

I had my first one at 16 then three in quick succession though two were re-do's.. I'm 52 and now have 2 and one crown.

My OH has loads and has had lots re-done. He is fastidious over his teeth.

Yes diet and cleaning plays a major part but some people just have better/worse teeth. I know someone who was a dental nurse and she always had issues

BornStroppy · 03/05/2017 12:13

every one of my teeth id filled.

i have never missed a nights brushing, a dentist appointment an dont even have a sweet tooth.

I am 34.

Calvinlookingforhobbs · 03/05/2017 12:13

30 and I was so very very upset!

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 03/05/2017 12:15

18 and I was devastated. I cried. I haven't had any since then.

DH however grew up with very little parental supervision and has a mouthful of fillings and his teeth seem to be cracking and breaking Sad he's much more vigilant about brushing than me.

We had a check up yesterday and my dentist only had praise for my teeth. DH....not so much. We're both 34.

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 03/05/2017 12:17

I've read about the genetics thing and it worries me because once my mum went through menopause it was like her teeth started crumbling out of her head. She's devastated that at 60 having taken really good care of her teeth (well, since being an adult. She did have loads of fillings when younger) she has had to have a bridge.

Roomba · 03/05/2017 12:29

19 - had to have a root canal. I haven't had another filling since but probably need a couple at the back now.

A lot of it is down to genetics, I think.

harderandharder2breathe · 03/05/2017 12:31

31 and none yet but I have my first dentist appointment in years booked soon so we'll see Confused I'm terrified

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 03/05/2017 12:32

I don't have any. One of my DC has had 2 already aged 9, the other hasn't had any. Both eat the same foods, brush at the same times - I really think it comes down to genetics in some way.

CPtart · 03/05/2017 12:32

I had my first at primary school, I'm now 45 and think I have four. DC are 14 and 11 and have had one each. We very rarely eat sweets/fizzy drinks, brush twice a day etc etc but still have problems. I also have gum disease requiring a deep clean twice a year. My DF had lost all his teeth in his twenties. Dentist said definitely genetic.

BonfiresOfInsanity · 03/05/2017 14:01

Oh god I'm finding this depressing. I really don't want my son to have my teeth. Every dentist I've ever had says it's not genetics but diet and brushing and I'm made to feel guilty. Now I'm being made to feel guilty about my son's teeth. Sad

badtime · 03/05/2017 14:06

I'm like Bonfires, but luckily I have had dentists who agree that there are differences in enamel which make some people's teeth more fragile than others'. This means I have to be more careful than most people.

My husband doesn't brush anything like as carefully as me and doesn't floss, and his teeth are perfect. No matter what I do, mine are a state.

allegretto · 03/05/2017 14:08

44 and haven'thad one yet but got a feeling I'm about to.

JoffreyBaratheon · 03/05/2017 14:11

As a little kid. But in those days, NHS dentists were paid per filling so most people probably had a mouth full of unnecessary fillings! In adulthood I got well into my 40s before I had any more.

UppityHumpty · 03/05/2017 14:38

Pushing 40, no fillings yet. I am addicted to milk and have always drunk a glass or two everyday.

wifeyhun · 03/05/2017 14:50

26 after having DD2.

Cupofteaandtoilet · 03/05/2017 14:51

I had several before I left school. Have had a few more since plus a crown and a root canal (both early 30s). I neglected my teeth, ate lots of fruit gums and opened beer bottles with them 😳

My children (20 & 18) aren't brilliant at tooth hygiene but neither has had a filling (yet).

DH has quite a few, despite being a bit OCD; his sister has none (50+).

26 is pretty good mo. stealth boast?

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 03/05/2017 14:51

about 8. in the 70s

HelgaHufflepuff76 · 03/05/2017 14:54

I'm 41 and haven't had any.

I feel like this has as much to do with good fortune as it does my oral hygiene routine.

KurriKurri · 03/05/2017 14:59

I feel awful as I have loads. I was born late fifties, had fillings in my baby teeth, most of my teeth now are fillings or crowns, most of them done before the age of 25ish. No idea why my teeth are so rubbish - although many of my fiends of similar age have a lot of fillings/crowns too. I don't think my oral hygiene is any worse than anyone else's. Didn't excessively eat sweets or sugary things as a child Of course we didn't have fluoride in the water or in toothpastes.

Luckily my children (one is 32 one is 27) have no fillings, so I'm glad the didn't inherit my crap teeth Smile

Daytona79 · 03/05/2017 15:13

38 and still not had one , go to dentist every 6-12 months

Hotheadwheresthecoldbath · 03/05/2017 15:19

Another who was a child when dentists were paid by the filling so I had eight in early teens, not had any since. These were in the days before fizzy drinks and sweet treats.Sad

Doje · 03/05/2017 15:23

37 and none yet!

milliemolliemou · 03/05/2017 15:28

First one at 8 - in the days when there was an alleged Sydney smile with Oz dentists coming over late Sixties and ?plundering? teeth. Luckily mine have subsequently held up. DC has no fillings aged 30. DH has problems probably to do with night grinding. I think you might be lucky to have strong teeth and good calcium. However have a young relative who has teeth stripped by an eight-plus a day coca cola habit and have heard of 8 year olds who have lost their emerging adult teeth to sweet stuff. I think it's a massive shame it's not part of education, especially since mouth infections and teeth disease appear to affect long term health.
